Job Description
This person is distinctively positioned to make unique contributions to the global health research efforts of the Department of Psychiatry and the Medical School. In 2018 co-founded Empower Through Health a 501c3 NGO based in the Buyende district of Uganda a region with over 450000 inhabitants who face severe medical care access issues. The NGO supports a Medical Center that delivers care to 10000 people annually. This person and the co-founders have sustained the NGO through philanthropy and revenue-generating medical education programs. The focus of the research has been to study and develop interventions targeting barriers to mental health care. However this person has broader portfolio of research including medical/interventions research on rare diseases that have relatively high prevalence in the Buyende district population the basis for his collaboration with Biohaven Pharmaceuticals who propose to support half of the salary through a gift to the University.
