Job Description

TO: All Teaching and Administrative Personnel Brockton Public Schools FROM: Dr. Kathleen F. Moran Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources RE: Bridgewater State University and Brockton High Schools Next Step University Program The Office of Exceptional Learning is seeking Special Education Teachers (2) for students ages 18 to 22 in the Transition Program located at Bridgewater University. The special education teachers will provide specialized instruction in all academic and adaptive areas specific to each students Individualized Education Plan. Teachers may also shadow students who audit courses and/or participate in internships offered by Bridgewater State University and Brockton Public Schools. This job requires knowledge of special education testing and transition assessments report writing communicating with parents at various times and at team meetings knowledge of data collection and progress monitoring writing progress reports and consultation with Bridgewater State University professors and campus staff. Qualifications: Appropriate Massachusetts DESE Licensure required - Moderate Disabilities (5-12) OR Severe Disabilities (All levels)Experience working with students with disabilities and their families (preferably transition-aged students 18 and above) in public school college settings and in the community Duties and Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with Brockton Public Schools Transition Team staff and support staff and Bridgewater State University staff to support students (18) with disabilities in navigating a college campus auditing courses and participating in internships Travel train students to increase their ability to utilize public transportation to access school on the campus and job sitesWork collaboratively with community partners Attend students college classes/meetings/internships/activities Design and provide academic support and coursework assistance to students Implement students accommodations as set forth by the students IEPs Support students in self-advocacy in working with Bridgewater State University staff and internship supervisorsSupport students in gradually and safely developing skills toward independence Communicate with students parents/guardians as needed Create update and manage individual student schedules related to classes and/or internshipsWrite student IEP goals and objectives and collect student data for progress monitoring Attend IEP meetings as scheduled by Brockton Public SchoolsComplete testing for students (i.e. transition assessments educational assessments)Regularly update relevant BPS school staff on students progress Attend Special Education Department Meetings and professional development and trainings as needed Work hours: 7:50 3:05 (Report to Bridgewater State University)Location: Bridgewater State University (however follows Brockton Public Schools schedule)Reports to: Assistant Director of Special Education for High Schools Compensation: According to contract Funding: Local
