Sprouts Burlington Childcare is a child care center for Burlington Public Schools faculty and staff housed at the Francis Wyman Elementary School. Sprouts runs on the teachers calendar and offers a nurturing learning environment for children ages 3 months through 5 years.
Reporting to the Director of Child Care Services the Sprouts Director will supervise and manage the Infant Toddler Preschool program at Sprouts Burlington Childcare.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- In consultation with the Assistant or Director of Childcare Services handle the day-to-day operations and administration of the Sprouts program
- Manage all aspects of the program from keeping student-to-teacher ratios appropriate to ensuring the excellence of the curriculum and organizing student enrollment
- Ensure the program is in compliance with EEC regulations as well as policies of the Burlington Public Schools
- Oversee teachers and classroom activities
- Hire train and supervise staff and teachers
- Organize professional development activities
- Develop policies and procedures that meet state requirements and communicate them to staff and teachers
- Manage and prepare budgets with the assistance of the Director of Child Care Services
- Create curricula and standards that support educational excellence
- Work with staff to communicate with parents and students
- Discuss student progress with parents
- Coordinate the maintenance and cleaning of the facility according to state and local standards
- Ensure that the daily programs and schedules are implemented and assessed on effectiveness
- Ensure that the developmental needs of every student are met
- Ensure student safety and follow appropriate emergency protocols
- Maintain current enrollment and daily attendance records
- Coordinate staff and program evaluation as well as the annual registration process
- Coordinate communication with parents of program participants
- Maintain accurate information on student program participants
- Lead and work with the Parent Board on an annual basis
- Any other duties as required by the Director of Childcare Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
The qualifications listed below are preferential to the duties and responsibilities as listed in the job description but may be waived at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools.
- Must be Director II qualified through EEC
- Teacher qualified through EEC with Infant/Toddlers and Preschool
- Minimum five years experience working with children
- Experience in faculty recruitment and screening preferred
- Experience in developing childrens program development and enrichment programs
- Understanding of childrens developmental stages
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Depth of knowledge regarding education laws regulations processes and procedures
- Ability to effectively present information in a variety of manners to audiences and respond appropriately to questions
- Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to develop and maintain effective and trusting working relationships with students staff and the community
- Supervision and evaluation skills
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Committee policies
In addition the Sprouts Director is expected to possess the following skills:
- Sprouts director will need to collaborate and coordinate with many people as well as effectively convey information to teachers staff parents and children.
- Active Listening.Excellent communicators actively listen. Teachers and parents need to feel a Sprouts director truly hears what theyre saying.
- Sprouts director will deal with a vulnerable population. Parents and students may be particularly sensitive as they begin their journey into the new experience of school. As such the Sprouts director should be able to demonstrate compassion and concern.
- Critical Thinking.Making effective decisions about the various academic and business components of the program calls for excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Interpersonal Relations.To effectively run a program the Sprouts director needs to develop relationships with teachers parents and children. This requires the ability to build trust and a sense of partnership with others.
- Schools are busy places with many moving parts. The Sprouts director needs to keep excellent records about children and teachers. They also need to be able to multitask giving attention to several people and situations at once.
- Problem-Solving.Managing an entire school inevitably means addressing problems which might involve the budget concerns from parents or issues with teachers. The Sprouts director needs to approach problems thoughtfully and with a level head to find effective solutions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Sprouts Director supervises the Lead Teachers Teachers Assistants and Volunteers.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Program operates during the School Year on days that teachers report to work and is closed during the summer. The Director may work some hours mid-August to get ready for the new School Year. The program is closed during school vacation weeks holidays but open on Professional Development Days.
