Title: Coordinator of Section 504 and Homeless Education Services
Reports to: Director of Student Services
Location: North Carolina Cyber Academy Durham North Carolina (Primarily Remote)
Job Type: Full-time (Monday - Friday)
General Definition of Work:
The Coordinator of Section 504 and Homeless Education Services is responsible for ensuring
equitable access to education and compliance with federal and state regulations across two
critical student support areas. This position serves as the District Coordinator for Section 504
as well as homeless student services under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
The ideal candidate brings expertise in legal compliance case management and virtual
education practices along with a strong commitment to student advocacy and collaboration.
Primary Responsibilities:
Section 504 Coordinator
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Section 504 process K-12 including referrals and eligibility plan development implementation and annual reviews.
- Adopt 504 plans for all new students within 30 days of enrollment.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Section 504 federal and North Carolina state guidelines.
- Provide professional development and guidance to staff on Section 504 processes and accommodations in the virtual setting.
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation in accordance with FERPA and district protocols.
- Work closely with the Testing and Accountability department to ensure accommodations are accurate and communicated in a timely manner..
Manages referrals eligibility reviews and transition planning for students protected under Section 504 who are in need of Hospital-Homebound services.
- District McKinney-Vento Liaison
- Work closely with school social workers to identify and support students who qualify under the McKinney-Vento Act
- Train school staff annually on McKinney-Vento requirements and best practices.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state reporting and documentation mandates.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Education School Counseling School Psychology Social Work or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in K12 education.
- At least 1 year of direct experience serving as a 504 Coordinator at the school or district level.
- Strong communication collaboration and organizational skills.
- Proficient in virtual tools and learning platforms.
- Knowledge of and experience with implementing instructional accommodations.
- Knowledge of state assessment accommodations.
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
- MUST be a North Carolina resident to be considered for hire must maintain North
- Carolina residency while employed by NCCA
Work Location:
Hybrid / Remote approximately 90-95% per month. This position requires some travel to the
school office located in Durham NC as well as additional travel to testing sites as needed.
