Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:The Reading Intervention Teachers primary purpose is to help middle school students develop proficient reading skills that will contribute to their overall academic growth in Caroline County Public Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters degree in Reading or Education preferred and hold a Maryland or be eligible for a Maryland educator certificate.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of current ELA standards methodologies and instructional interventions.
  3. At least 3 years of successful teaching experience.
  4. Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated initiative and leadership in understanding the acquisition of reading skills and teaching elementary reading.
  6. Proficient technology skills including data analysis and reporting

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Teach county-approved reading interventions and/or small groups for the majority of the school day.
  2. Coordinate the school-based reading intervention programs in collaboration with the school administration reading resource teacher and appropriate supervisor(s) by planning implementing and assessing reading intervention services to ensure fidelity. Responsibilities include but are not limited to scheduling maintaining and securing materials assessing students delivering interventions and monitoring implementation/effectiveness.
  3. Review and evaluate student achievement information (including diagnostic screeners) in order to place students in appropriate academic interventions.
  4. Utilize protocols to ensure that interventions have been implemented with fidelity.
  5. Assist in developing a systematic and comprehensive process of data collection and effective decision-making/problem solving for reading interventions.
  6. Maintain up-to-date files/spreadsheets related to student progress.
  7. Keep parents informed as to the purposes/progress of the reading intervention by sharing intervention progress on a quarterly basis.
  8. Be an active participant in the SST and/or IEP Process by providing data and input on specific student needs related to reading.
  9. Professional Development:
    • In consultation with school leadership develop and deliver professional training for teachers concerning approved reading interventions data collection and data analysis.
    • Actively participate in ELA training for ongoing professional growth.
    • Keep informed of best practices and new developments related to literacy and math and share the information with appropriate staff.
    • Meet with Principal Supervisor of Reading and Supervisor of Special Education quarterly.
  1. Perform other duties as required by the Principal Supervisor of Reading and Supervisor of Special Education.
  2. Consistently exhibit a positive attitude a sense of efficacy and commitment to CCPS when collaborating within and outside of the school community.
  3. Maintain professional work habits.

PAY & HOURS: Thisposition is a 10 month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Caroline County Board of Education Teacher Salary Scale. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on knowledge experience skills and abilities related to this position.
