About this unit
2 East is a Surgical Critical Care Unit specializing in cardiovascular surgical interventions. We also provide care to patients requiring general surgical interventions. Our nurses possess skills that allow them to demonstrate immense critical thinking and physical assessment skills which sets them apart as they continually manage acutely ill patients. The unit staff is comprised of RNs (registered nurses) NTs (nurse technicians) and CAs (clinical assistants). It is led by a Clinical Nurse Manager an Associate Clinical Manager on the off-shift and a Nurse in Professional Development Specialist. The staff on 2 East are supported by Surgical/Anesthesia Intensivists Cardiovascular Surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants) who provide 24/7 coverage.

Scope of work
Under supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations suctioning irrigating colostomies applying restraints giving enemas douches and sitz baths or peri care.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing. May be enrolled in an (accredited) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program.
Note: ADN graduates will be required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire/placement in a graduate nurse position.
Required RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure (or) Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam.
Required Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically.
Required High School Diploma
Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations theory and clinical. Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Or ARC American Red Cross Upon Hire required
