Job Title: Director of Operations

codeCampus is a fast-growing STEAM enrichment organization that delivers innovative in-school and after-school programs to students in grades K12. We make STEM and arts education fun accessible and hands-on preparing the next generation of problem-solvers coders and creators.

We currently partner with over 130 school sites and serve thousands of students annually. Our dynamic instructional team is supported by a nimble and committed operations staff. Were seeking a Director of Operations to help us build on our momentum and scale impact with operational excellence and heart.

Position Overview

The Director of Operations is a strategic and highly involved leader responsible for driving the internal engine of codeCampus. This includes full ownership of financial oversight HR operations and program staffing with a strong emphasis on building team morale improving systems and ensuring quality delivery at scale.

This is a deeply embedded role fielding daily questions from both HR and Ops teams managing morale through regular syncs and stepping in to fill operational or staffing gaps when needed. The Director of Operations is also a key decision-maker for recruiting strategy and budget pacing and frequently coordinates directly with school district partners.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Oversight

  • Oversee daily and long-term financial planning including budgeting forecasting and cost-per-program analysis.
  • Track payroll overtime and site-based hiring budgets; proactively identify cost overruns or gaps.
  • Monitor ad spend for recruitment channels like Indeed and adjust allocations by site and season.
  • Submit payroll journals and coordinate with accounting partners to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Manage vendor contracts insurance coverage certificates of insurance (COIs) and annual business registrations.
  • Maintain dashboards that translate complex data into actionable insights for leadership and program teams.

Human Resources Leadership

  • Act as the primary HR escalation point supporting team leads with employee relations corrective action coaching and compliance.
  • Lead site-level staffing strategies defining how many instructors are needed where and when based on district requirements and enrollment projections.
  • Work closely with the HR team to hit hiring targets within tight seasonal windows.
  • Drive a culture of care through regular check-ins 1:1s and syncs with staff leads and contributors.
  • Collaborate on slow intentional rollouts of process improvements that include input from all stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with California labor law and prepare for multi-state expansion.

Team & Process Management

  • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for HR and Ops teams fielding questions offering situational leadership and tapping in when teammates are unavailable.
  • Lead daily syncs with team leads and shape weekly/monthly cadence based on seasonal activity.
  • Act as a cheerleader for change management balancing structure with empathy in how new systems are introduced and implemented.
  • Co-develop improvements in onboarding offboarding and curriculum rollout cycles emphasizing clarity and sustainability.

Systems & Tools Administration

  • Serve as lead administrator in Rippling managing reporting employee records and system permissions.
  • Collaborate with staff to track and validate overtime scheduling logistics and HR documentation.
  • Use platforms like Monday Slack and Google Workspace to streamline communication and reduce friction in day-to-day operations.

Partner & Program Support

  • Liaise with school district partners to align staffing plans coordinate documentation and support ongoing compliance.
  • Ensure COIs background checks and program certifications are completed accurately and on time.
  • Help balance recruitment urgency with budget disciplinepushing teams to meet program needs while managing financial pacing.

  • Staffing is timely cost-efficient and meets program quality expectations.
  • Financial reports are accurate and actionable allowing for clear budget forecasting.
  • The HR function is responsive well-documented and aligned with labor laws and organizational culture.
  • Team members feel seen supported and capable of growing within their roles.
  • Process improvements are collaborative thoughtful and integrated smoothly into daily operations.
  • Partnerships with schools and districts are managed professionally and proactively.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 710 years of experience in operations HR and/or financial managementideally in K12 education enrichment programs or nonprofits.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting payroll and performance reporting.
  • Experience leading multi-site staffing or seasonal hiring efforts.
  • Knowledge of California labor law and a track record of HR compliance and policy development.
  • Proficiency with HRIS tools (Rippling preferred) Slack Google Workspace and project management software.
  • Empathetic leadership style and proven ability to motivate and retain cross-functional teams.

Preferred:

  • SHRM-CP PHR or similar HR certification.
  • Experience with public school district contracts or education-based service delivery.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or a second language common to our school communities.
  • Familiarity with seasonal workforce models and instructional programming logistics.
