Are you passionate about sustainable development and protecting Albertas natural landscapes Join the All-Season Resorts (ASR) Branch as an ASR Development Officer and play a pivotal role in balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship. This is your chance to help shape how Albertas resort developments on crown land grow while ensuring the long-term sustainability of our provinces natural resources for generations to come.
Reporting to the Director of Regulatory Operations the ASR Development Officer leads the regulatory review approval and lifecycle management of developments on designated All-Season Resort lands. You will apply integrated resource management principles and your knowledge of environmental legislation to assess authorize and monitor a variety of land use activities. This role is critical to ensuring that development aligns with government priorities for growing Albertas visitor economy while protecting environmental integrity and social values.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Conducting regulatory reviews and making decisions on land development applications under the All-Season Resorts Act Public Lands Act Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) and Water Act
- Advising and guiding stakeholdersincluding municipal governments developers Indigenous groups and the publicon regulatory processes land use requirements and sustainability best practices
- Managing the full lifecycle of development projects from initial application through compliance monitoring audits inspections and reclamation
- Conducting field inspections and ensuring compliance with regulatory conditions using the Compliance Assurance Framework and Integrated Compliance Process
- Coordinating and integrating input from multiple stakeholders regulatory bodies and Indigenous consultation processes
- Providing professional regulatory advice and recommendations to internal and external decision-makers to support balanced and sustainable land use outcomes
- Providing regulatory oversight of municipal services (e.g. wastewater stormwater drinking water) related to resort development
- Supporting the development and implementation of operational and strategic policy directions within the ASR Branch

Qualifications
Required:
- University degree in Environmental Sciences or related PLUS 4 years related experience or equivalent as described
Equivalency:
- Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
For Example:
- Related 1 year certificate PLUS a minimum 7 years of experience
- Related 2-year diploma PLUS a minimum 6 years of experience
- Related minimum 8 years of experience.
The successful candidate MUST have:
- Sound knowledge of legislation including Public Lands Act Water Act and Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and their associated regulations and codes of practice.
- Knowledge of existing regional and sub-regional plans their content management intent and how they are considered in crown land management as well as crown land designations ownership and rights associated to those designations.
- In depth knowledge of public land management wildlife management physical geography forest ecology or water resources
- Class 5 Drivers license and ability to provide a clear driver abstract
- Ability to travel throughout the province and conduct field work as required
Assets:
- Experience working with Albertas regulatory frameworks including the Public Lands Act Water Act and EPEA
- Knowledge of environmental legislation and how it applies to provincial crown land.
- Experience with Indigenous consultation processes
- Knowledge of municipal infrastructure services related to development (e.g. wastewater stormwater drinking water systems )
- Experience conducting compliance inspections and enforcement actions
- Valid certifications in TDG Air and Ground WHMIS H2S Alive Standard First Aid and Basic CPR ATV Rider Course and Defensive Driving
