FMCSD requires a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant to join the team. This job involves providing speech and language services to EEP - Gr. 6 students within an inclusive educational environment under the direction of the school Principal and supervision of the district Speech and Language Pathologist.
Requirements and Competencies:
- Speech Language Pathology Assistant Diploma or Degree in Linguistics is first Preference
- Should no applicant be identified that possess the required SLPA Diploma or Linguistics Degree candidates with an EA Certificate AND previous experience working as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant with signed of supervision hours from division SLPs may be considered as a second preference. This does not guarantee future SPLA positions.
- Should no applicant be identified that possess either above noted criteria candidates with an EA Certificate AND a minimum of 5 years working in positions with Speech development and support may be considered. This does not guarantee future SLPA positions.
- Ability to handle physical emotional and mentally demanding situations
- Be self-directed and work independently; effective time management
- Able to work in multiple school locations
Responsibilities:
- Provide treatment to students under the supervision of an SLP
- Administer defined screening protocols without interpretation selected by the supervising SLP
- Assisting the SLP during assessments including but not limited to preparing materials and collecting data
- Following and implementing documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP for student in individual and group activities
- Provide input and assist in the preparation of IPPs
- Participate in team meetings as required
- Provide assistance to students who experience physical difficulties
- Documenting student performance during treatment and reporting the information to the supervising SLP.
- Preparing materials for use in therapy home programs classroom and other environments under the guidance of the supervising SLP
- Participating in family conferences case conferences or inter-professional team conferences with the supervising SLP present
- Relaying treatment processes (ex; scheduling treatment goals and activities home programming etc) to the guardians of the student with support and approval of the supervising SLP
- Be able to assist teachers in adapting and modifying academic programs for students
- Support for division Occupational Therapists may be required
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Division SLP
