Job Description

The Assistant Athletic Director for External Engagement is responsible for maximizing revenue generation through external functions of the athletic department such as corporate sponsorship sales fundraising events and alumni engagement.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Develops and coordinates the corporate relations regarding sponsorship benefits appropriate marketing materials and ensures fulfillment and satisfaction of corporate partnership agreements.

Creates and manages the sale and upkeep of all sponsorship inventory associated with MSSU athletics including radio signage game/tournament sponsorships print and LED technology.

Works closely with colleagues in University Advancement including Development and Alumni Relations in achieving the Athletic department and University sponsorship goals including collaboration on marketing materials for existing University athletic gift opportunities.

Serves a lead department staff member in the planning organization and execution of fundraising events.

Partners with appropriate Development staff on department annual giving initiatives such as Lionbackers Booster Club sport-specific campaigns and the Lion Pride Giving Challenge.

Partners with Alumni Relations to engage with former MSSU student-athletes and host athletic reunion events as appropriate.

Regularly attends University Advancement staff meetings to ensure effective coordination particularly with respect to individual and corporate prospects.

Will sell additional university advertisements for Crossroads Magazine to ensure sufficient funding is available to print a second edition of the publication each year.

Assists the Director of Athletics in working with MSSU athletics-related NIL Collective to identify and cultivate prospective donors.

Develops strategies to increase engagement with the greater Joplin community through outreach to the local business community nonprofit and service organizations and other community groups.

Works closely with colleagues in the University Relations and Marketing Department in order to better serve promote and inform our constituents.

Oversees the MSSU Athletics Hall of Fame Committee including coordination of selections and planning of induction ceremony.

Supervises interns post-els and student workers serving the functions duties and responsibilities of this position.

Oversees management of the MSSU Athletics brand by reviewing MSSU Athletics logo usage on merchandise team apparel digital and print media etc.

Handles commercial log generation client commercial upkeep and radio station contracts.

Completes annual Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) report for Office of Financial Services.

Serve as an administrator in day-to-day operations of athletic department under the direction of the Director of Athletics.

Acts as a game-site administrator for various events as assigned throughout the year.

Successfully works with diverse populations.

Performs other related duties as required.

Education Experience and Licenses

Bachelors degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university in related field is required.

Masters degree preferred.

Minimum of two years of work-related skill knowledge or experience is required; or any combination of education and experience.

Current driver license for transportation purposes.

  • Requires the ability to oversee purchasing authority up to $1000 without approval from supervisor.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for data entry.
  • Requires the ability to use highly technical computer applications.

The employee must be able to work long hours of a high physical demand during game days. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color perception peripheral vision depth perception texture perception and ability to adjust focus. Requires the ability to smell.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places; extreme weather conditions while working outside football games; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
