Collaborative Outreach Preventing Exploitation (COPE) Program

McMan is recruiting for a Wellness Facilitator whose role will be to provide clinical support to enhance the effectiveness of the COPE Program. The COPE program supports youth aged 12 -24 years who are at risk of or engaged in sexual exploitation within Calgary and surrounding areas. This program helps youth and their families reduce the risks of sexual exploitation in the community and online. The COPE program also provides education and awareness building in various community settings. In collaboration with the COPE Program Supervisor the Wellness Facilitator will provide a dual role of providing direct clinical support to the program and enhancing the existing education and awareness initiatives. The Wellness Facilitator will deliver individual and group sessions aimed at promoting wellness and addressing the mental health and substance use needs of youth connected to the program.
This position is best suited for an individual who wants to create positive change in the lives of young people through flexible non-traditional clinical supports. The ideal candidate will embrace new and innovative ways of engaging youth and support the staff team with clinical consultation. This position requires a strong understanding of harm reduction trauma grief and loss and child/adolescent development. As this position works with multiple systems of care the ideal candidate will have knowledge and skill in working with diverse systems.
*This role will require some evening and weekend work and the ability to participate in the agencys on-call rotation.*
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual counselling and facilitate group sessions for youth participants.
  • Work with families or identified natural support as needed to enhance overall capacity to support young people.
  • Provide clinical consultations to the program staff team to address complex cases involving behavioral concerns mental health challenges substance use and risks of sexual exploitation.
  • Offer guidance on effective intervention strategies and therapeutic approaches to support staff in their work with youth participants.
  • Oversee the educational aspects of the program ensuring content relevance adherence to program objectives.
  • Provide direction and support to program staff delivering education sessions.
  • Collaborate with the COPE Program Supervisor to ensure alignment with current best practices and program objectives.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
  • Masters degree in clinical psychology Counselling or Social Work together with registration with appropriate College.
  • Knowledge and experience with high-risk youth population preferably in the areas of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
  • Knowledge of the Child Youth Enhancement Act and PSECA (Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act) legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working with multiple systems and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Experience facilitating groups and community education.
  • Strong oral and written communication time management and decision-making skills.
  • Direct experience working with youth from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal supportive counselling and relationship building skills.
  • Current standard First Aid Certification and Suicide Intervention Training
  • Valid Drivers license and adequate insurance coverage (2 million liability)
  • Current Police and Child Intervention checks (within 6 months)
  • Have a flexible schedule and the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
