The Summer Student safety and efficiently maintains services all pieces of equipment while learning their trade and enhancing their scope of knowledge for their assigned facilities located within the Swan Hills Treatment Centre(SHTC). Assigned Veolia SHTC. All work performed is to be in accordance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and permitting requirements while achieving target KPIs. KPIs include safety productivity and quality of work performed. The incumbent may be requested to assist other trades in the performance of their work as required. Incumbent may be required to work day shifts.
This position operates within a COR certified plant environment (which is a requirement of our Contract) and is required to comply with all regulatory requirements including the Clients operating approval with Alberta Environment.
Main Responsibilities:
The duties of the Summer Student are as follows but not limited to:
- Understands and promotes the Companys the Divisions the Plants and the Departments mission statement values and strategic goals.
- Proactively promotes through example a safe work ethic attitude and workplace. Complies with all safety policies standards and procedures to achieve a safe work environment and safety for all staff and visitors as well as the Companys Clients and Regulatory Agencies safe work objectives and requirements.
- Maintains effective working relationships and communications with peers management staff in other Company departments and client representatives. Effectively resolves any conflicts in a timely and respectful manner to achieve positive and healthy working relationships and workplace environment.
- Promotes a quality-first work ethic and attitude to provide a service of the highest standard achievable.
- Maintains confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
- Understands complies with and is accountable for adherence to COR quality standards in all activities.
- Safely operates company owned leased managed or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment .
- Assist maintenance Technicians
- Support production operations
- Help with inventory management
- Conduct basic equipment inspections
- Paint parking lot railings and equipments as assigned
- Document maintenance activities
- Assist with data collection and entry
- Support quality control process
- Help with general plant operations
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Knowledge Skills and Experiences:
- Enrolled in Engineering Technology or related program minimum high school graduate
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Good mathematical skills
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to follow instructions
- Good communication skills
- Previous experience in an industrial process plant environment an asset
- Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.
- Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within a fast-paced environment with changing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
- Proven organizational and creative-problem solving skills.
- Intermediate-level computer skills to operate MS Office Suite (especially Outlook Excel and Word).
- Ability and willingness to work assigned shifts and overtime as scheduled including outside of regular business hours to achieve operational requirements.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
- Ability to complete all conditions of employment including negative alcohol and drug test current and clean Class 5 drivers license pre-employment medical immunizations and background check.
Hours of Work:
Temporary intership for the summer period.
Regular hours of work for the Apprentice Electrician (SHTC) is based on a 40 hour work week in a compressed work week schedule. Thereby working four ten-hour days each week. To achieve operational requirements and businesshour coverage at all times incumbent may be required to occasionally change/adapt their hours. Options within the Compressed Work Week Guidelines are:
- Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday and 6:00 am to 4:30 pm or 7:00 am to 5:30 pm with a 30-minute scheduled lunch break. Position is based on a 40-hour work week. With prior approval incumbent has flexibility to adapt hours to meet business and personal needs. Incumbent is required to work pre-authorized overtime as scheduled.
