Position Summary
This position supports the work of the Y a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development healthy living and social responsibility. The Tennis & Pickleball Pro at the Eugene Family YMCA maintains a supportive positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals coaches other employees offering programming at the Center and instructs and leads group and individual tennis lessons and events in a safe enjoyable and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Effectively builds community.
Essential Functions
Maintain pro-level knowledge of the sports of tennis and pickleball to provide effective information and support to members and to inform appropriate programming at the Center including trends in programming and facilities
Work closely with the Senior Manager of Membershipand the VP of Community Engagement onthe planning organizing implementing communicating and delivery of high-quality tennis and pickleball programs for all ages.
Supervise a team of programstaff (tennis and pickleball pros and attendants) including hiring onboarding training performance management disciplinary actions and mentoring.
Develop and lead group tennis programs implement special events/leagues/tournaments and create/propose additional programming to promote tennis and pickleball.
Evaluate the success of programming utilizing data and key performance indicators to make decisions about program changes.
Establishfunctional policies and maketactical decisions at the Tennis & Pickleball Center within overall strategic direction with top management guidance
Establish and manage an internal tennis and pickleball skill-level rating system ensuring that all players receive a skill rating that is documented in our systems. Enforce all rules about skill-level requirements to ensure appropriate players are in group programs.
Solvecomplex problems at the Tennis & Pickleball Center applying research training or business approaches in new ways; develop and recommend new alternatives to senior leaders
Provideexcellent service to members guests and program participants
Askand answers questionfrom program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to tennis pickleball health and well-being
Create relationships and build connections with our members
Spot-check playtimes and ensure members who sign up are showing up and those on the waitlist are not (enforcing rules and guidelines).
Ensure that members follow our member code of conduct document incidents in a timely manner and report them to the Senior Manager at the Patterson Campus Tennis & Pickleball Center.
Ensure the space is clean organized and ready for tennis and pickleball programming.
Attend staff meetings and trainings as required. Complete all required trainings as assigned by supervisor by scheduled due date.
If required to drive while on duty (either your own vehicle or a Y-owned vehicle) must maintain a current valid Oregon drivers license a DMV driving record that meets YMCA standards and evidence of insurability throughout entire term of employment
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
At least six-and-a-half years of experience teaching tennis and/or pickleball classes or lessons
RSPA (Elite Pro) IPTPA PTR/ or USAPA PPR Certification
Previous experience as a Head Tennis or Pickleball professional at a tennis or pickleball facility
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience managing a tennis or pickleball facility
Previous experience at a YMCA
Conversational fluency in Spanish
