Job Description

Overview

As of July 14 2025 the step 1 rate for pay grade 23 will be $27.50 per hour.

This position primarily serves as the administrative support for the Residential Licensing & Special Investigations Unit (RLSI) in the Family Services Divisions Central Office. Focus areas include: 1) administrative support for licensing of foster homes child abuse and neglect investigations within state run facilities (childcare settings foster homes schools and conflict cases); 2) tracking fingerprint results out of state Adam Walsh Background checks and training requirements for foster homes 3) administrative support to three teams in a unit of seventeen. RLSI also conducts background checks to other entities within the state. This is a limited-service position through 9/30/2026 with the possibility of extension.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02 Hiring Standards Vermont and/or national criminal record checks as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks as appropriate to the position under recruitment will be conducted on candidates with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of experience providing administrative-level support to a business or organization INCLUDING one (1) year or more in an accounting or budgeting function and experience as a supervisor of clerical or administrative staff.

OR

One year of full-time college level study in accounting business or public administration office administration or a related field AND three (3) years or more of experience providing administrative-level support to a business or organization INCLUDING one (1) year or more in an accounting or budgeting function and experience as a supervisor of clerical or administrative staff.

OR

Two years of full-time college level study OR an associates degree or higher in accounting business or public administration office administration or a related field AND two (2) years or more of experience providing administrative-level support to a business or organization INCLUDING one (1) year or more in an accounting or budgeting function and experience as a supervisor of clerical or administrative staff.

OR

Three years of full-time college level study in accounting business or public administration office administration or a related field AND one (1) year or more of experience providing administrative-level support to a business or organization INCLUDING one (1) year or more in an accounting or budgeting function and experience as a supervisor of clerical or administrative staff.

OR

Four years of full-time college level study OR a bachelors degree or higher in accounting business or public administration office administration or a related field.

OR

One (1) year or more as an Administrative Services Coordinator II with the State of Vermont

NOTE: Only administrative work experience is qualifying. Administrative support includes those functions which keep the organization running or provide the resources for others to provide the programmatic work (e.g. accounting budget management grant administration finance human resources payroll purchasing or space management).
