Job Description

**This is a contracted position and will end in one-year from the date of hire
Under the supervision of the ChemCentral Team Lead or Supervisor the Junior Chemical Management Specialist will work as part of a team to maintain a comprehensive chemical management program across multiple UCSF campuses. Duties include receiving and unpackaging chemicals; adding chemicals to inventories using handheld scanners; barcoding chemical containers and entering information such as chemical name physical state & container types into the inventory system using a mobile app; delivering chemicals to laboratories; providing technical support and ad hoc training to end users of the purchsing system; and conducting routine reconcillation of both stockroom and laboratory chemical inventories


The job requires attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed standard operating procedures. Strong committement to customer service is required. Knowledge of chemical hazards and laboratory safety protocols is preferred.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $72000 - $80000 (Annual Rate).

  • Has taken some college level chemistry and related laboratory course work.
  • 1 year of experience working in a laboratory or chemical stockroom
  • Working knowledge of chemical hazards and laboratory safety protocols
  • Ability to obtain knowledge of chemical management policies regulatory requirements and safety regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Ability to read and interpret inventory practices and procedures used in the receipt storage and distribution of chemicals.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard spreadsheet and word processing software. (i.e. Microsoft suite of products Word Excel and Outlook).


    • Bachelors degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Ability to obtain knowledge of storeroom and inventory practices procedures used in the receipt storage and distribution of chemicals
