POSITION SUMMARY:

The Half-Day Preschool Coordinator oversees the Edwardsville YMCA half-day preschool program which runs from September through early May (aligned with Edwardsville District 7) and offers specialty camps in the summer months. The Preschool Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the program develops the whole child; sparks imagination builds self-esteem fosters learning through play develops an attitude of service and helps children discover new things each day. This position supports the work of the Y a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development healthy living and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Oversee and coordinate the half-day preschool program for the Edwardsville YMCA. Ensure high quality programming and establish new program activities during the school year as well as the summer specialty camp season.
  2. Teach one preschool class and monitor other classrooms/teachers on a scheduled basis during the school year and the specialty camps/instructors in the summer months (limited schedule during the summer).
  3. Recruit hire train supervise and schedule teachers. Complete staff performance evaluations.
  4. Collaborate with teachers to plan instructional activities and lessons which promote developmentally appropriate student learning.
  5. Collaborate with the Member Services Director and administrative staff to ensure registration information is accurate and available on a timely basis.
  6. Assign children to the appropriate classes make class rosters and distribute them to parents.
  7. Coordinate co-op parent volunteers in the classroom when needed.
  8. Respond to all internal and external communication in a timely manner.
  9. Oversee the organization/facilitation of special events including field trips for preschool.
  10. Coordinate with program directors to schedule activities for preschool participants during the school year.
  11. Procure and organize instructional and activity-related equipment and supplies as needed.
  12. Ensure the program operates within budget and compile program statistics/records and provide as requested.
  13. Assure compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to the program.
  14. Provide for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensure the physical environment supports healthy living.
  15. Regularly inspect equipment and play areas to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  16. Participate in the Annual Campaign fundraising efforts of the Edwardsville YMCA.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education related field or equivalent experience
  2. Proven work history in early childhood education classroom settings (1-2 experience as a coordinator or supervisor of staff in a child care setting is preferred)
  3. Ability to work well with a diverse group of children parents co-workers and adults.
  4. Strong writing communication and computer skills.
  5. CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of the community social and economic segments of the community.
  7. Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
  8. Complete required YMCA trainings according to Edwardsville YMCA policy.

SCHEDULE:

This hourly part-time position is scheduled when the program is in session during the school year and summer.

$19.00/hour
