How will this role impact First Command
Primary to growing the First Command Bank loan portfolio the SBA Loan Officer will determine SBA eligibility and evaluate SBA loan requests in concordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the SBA. The SBA Loan Officer should be familiar with the First Command Lending Policies in relation to the lending requirements of the SBA. Candidate should understand pre-qualification eligible proceeds loans structures and SBA nomenclature plus documents. Candidate will be part of a new and growing SBA department to focus primarily on CRE and Change of Ownership businesses plus some Franchise Lending. The SBA Loan Officer will be a key participant along with the SBA manager and SBA Team and have basic understandings of the roles of each SBA Team Member. Candidate should be adaptable and understand SBA technical systems and the current SOP plus manage Updates. Candidate should understand basic elements of the of Originations to Closings sometimes out-of-state.
What will the employee do in this role
Underwrite and evaluate SBA loan requests. Write or oversee preparation of accurate Credit Authorization Memorandums & presentations (CAMs) by analyzing and interpreting financial information and tax returns on prospective and existing borrowers to include global cash flow on historical and pro forma basis.
Explain why the loan is underwritten as a SBA loan and not conventionally to abide by the no financing elsewhere SOP SBA provision.
Assess the general creditworthiness of prospective borrowers and determine whether the transaction merits moving forward through the full underwriting process with the guidance of the SBA Manager.
Communicate and follow up with clients advisors and prospects with questions about financial aspects of the transaction and explain SBA nuances.
Coordinate loan closings by assisting SBA Processor Advisors Borrower Title Companies Appraisers Valuators and environmental Specialists 3rd party Legal Counsel and others involved in the closing process.
Provide portfolio management duties on existing portfolio to include working delinquent and problem loans in concert with the SBA & SBA Manager monitoring covenant compliance exception item follows up and assessing proper risk rating of individual loans on an ongoing basis as well as through the Annual Review process and with Banks SBA Auditor.
Develop relationships with the Financial Advisors soliciting referrals and leads directly from them and from existing customers as necessary to build/maintain the loan pipeline.
Complete other projects as requested by Manager.
What skills/qualifications do you need
Education
Business or Financial Major/Minor preferred.
Work Experience
10 years in Commercial Banking.
2 years experience as a credit analyst preparing credit write-ups for various types of commercial and real estate loans
5 years in commercial lending underwriting
Business Professional Commercial and Industrial Lending experience preferred.
Ability to navigate the SBA SOP 10 50 Updates
Ability to learn ETRAN w/ training.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel certification preferred
Thorough understanding of accounting principles and how to apply them in assessing cash flow
Thorough understanding of finance including calculation of payments rate amortization future value and present value
Competent in accurately assessing borrowers global cash flow on both a historical and pro forma basis utilizing business tax returns and individual tax returns
Ability to spread analyze underwrite structure negotiate and close the basic transactions that the department encounters.
Thorough knowledge of commercial loan documentation and general commercial loan underwriting principles.
Ability to perform a high level of multi-tasking working on numerous projects simultaneously keeping those tasks moving forward in order to meet the expectations multiple advisors client loan closing deadlines and the requirements of Bank management and Bank regulators.
Ability to balance new loan production duties with loan quality and portfolio management responsibilities
High degree of attention to detail
Fundamental foundation in financial spreading software
Formal credit training preferred
Exposure to banking regulations preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
