TEACHER OF THE DEAF

Two 1.0 Permanent position s - Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf Secondary

Position s are available September 1 2025

(Contracts rated under the Provincial Schools Authority)

Do you have interest in the education of students who are Deaf Consider bringing your professional expertise to the Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch. Currently there are exciting career opportunities available at Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf Secondary program in Milton.

The following position (s) are available for September 1 2025 :

NOTE : PDSB is currently inviting applications from OCT qualified teachers who are interested and willing to obtain the Deaf Specialist . Less than ASL fluency required for the position may be supported with an ASL/English Interpreter in the classroom while the successful candidate becomes fluent in ASL.

What we are looking for:

Qualifications:

  • Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers;
  • Deaf Specialist/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (NOTE: PDSB will consider teacher candidates who are currently engaged in completing the requirements for the specialist qualification and/or who express a willingness to obtain) ;
  • Intermediate and/or Senior Division qualifications required;
  • English History/Geography Social Sciences qualifications preferred;
  • Spec Ed Part 1 preferred;
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred. (NOTE: PDSB will consider teacher candidates who express a willingness to obtain ASL language fluency).

Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience teaching Deaf/hard of hearing students in academic programs and programs for students with multiple exceptionalities;
  • Ability to develop and modify lesson plans and to create IEPs to effectively teach Deaf students;
  • An in-depth knowledge of the principles of teaching Deaf students;
  • Ability to effectively manage a classroom and students using a variety of behavioural management strategies;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL); (NOTE: PDSB will consider teacher candidates who express a willingness to obtain ASL language fluency).
  • Ability to apply an in depth knowledge of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education for Deaf students;
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and work with students with multiple exceptionalities.
