Job Description

Student Athletics and Activities Specialist Salem High School Salem Public Schools SY 2025-2026

What Youll Do:

The Student Athletics and Activities Specialist will work to both strengthen and expand Salem High Schools student athletics and activities programs and opportunities. The Specialist will assist the Salem Public Schools Athletic Director in the daily operations of the Athletic Department at Salem High School working to ensure both smooth operations and quality experiences for students. Over time the person in this role will work to increase student engagement in school athletics (both middle and high school) as well as other student activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Athletic Director in the daily operations of the athletic department
  • Assist with Scheduling games transportation officials and practice times
  • Supervise athletic events ensuring safety sportsmanship and efficient operations
  • Serve as a liaison between coaches students parents and school administration
  • Serve on the Athletics Committee and work to strengthen engagement between Salem Public Schools and community partners who facilitate athletics opportunities for Salem children across the city.
  • Serve on the Hall of Fame committee
  • Monitor student-athlete eligibility and academic performance
  • Help coordinate athletic department communications and social media
  • Assist in managing equipment inventory and facility use
  • Support compliance with school league and state athletic association policies
  • Promote inclusivity and positive team culture across all sports programs
  • Support the strengthening of boosters for athletic department

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree Required; Masters Degree preferred
  • Relevant Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure
  • Dual Certification (content area) a plus
  • Previous experience in high school or collegiate athletics coaching or related roles
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience and working in an urban public school or charter school setting is preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for athletic events
  • Knowledge of athletic league rules and state association policies (e.g. MIAA NCAA etc.)
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Proficiency with technology (blended learning teacher/family communication suites (Remind preferred) Google G-Suite Apps etc.) desirable.
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
  • Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply
  • Current authorization to work in the United States

Salary: Teacher salaries in the Salem Public Schools are determined by the Salem Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement.
