- Training for activities of daily living
- Training for self care management
- Assessment of need for and recommendation for environmental modification
- Determination of appropriate adaptive equipment to assist with independence and efficiency.
- Training for use of electronics and technology for daily functional use
- Incontinence management and training
- Assessment and training for fit and use of scooter and motorized wheelchair.
- Use of splinting and bracing for positioning management of range of motion joint protection and improved function.
- Training for energy conservation.
- Assessment and training of fine motor skills such as handwriting small object manipulation opening jars
- Determination of strategies for management with low vision.
- Assisting with activity engagement and appropriate social interaction
- Caregiver support and training
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant performs services planned delegated and supervised by the Occupational Therapist. Participates in the rehabilitative plan of care designed by the Occupational Therapist and physician and monitored and evaluated by the Occupational Therapist.
Requirements
Graduate from an accredited Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants program with an Associates Degree approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Licensed or certified by the state in which the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant resides or practices according to state requirements and has received certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Inc. (NBCOT).
