Job Description

Start Date: August 2025 Position OverviewGateway Regional School Districts Vision Impairment Program (VIP) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Braillist and Materials Specialist to join our student support services team. This full-time (35 hours/week) position plays a critical role in ensuring that students with visual impairments have equitable access to instructional materials across all grade levels in the 3 district schools. The Braillist and Materials Specialist will transcribe produce and adapt educational materials into braille tactile graphics large print and accessible digital formats working closely with the districts Teacher(s) of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) classroom teachers and service ResponsibilitiesThe role of the Braillist and Materials Specialist is to assist the district Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) in the preparation and provision of Braille large print digital and adapted materials. for curriculum access for students who are blind or visually impaired throughout the four schools in the district grades preschool through high school. You may also need to occasionally assist with instructional duties for students with visual impairments in grades 7-12. Transcribe educational materials into braille large print and other accessible formats using braille translation software and embossing tactile graphics and other adapted materials aligned to curriculum and maintain a library of braille large print and adapted instructional and track braille textbooks and assistive technology devices including materials received and sent via Accessible Instructional Materials library NLS and Perkins Braille and Talking Book with VI program staff classroom teachers and administrators to anticipate and meet student material needs the setup and maintenance of braille-related equipment and assistive compliance with district and state guidelines for accessible materials and follow recommendations set forth in student educational team meetings as needed and participate in professional related duties as directed by the TVI program coordinator or :Associates degree or equivalent work/educational computer skills particularly in the use of Windows-based communication and organizational in literary braille/Unified English Braille Technical code or willing to working independently as well as in small groups within a team environment and with children of all ages and ability for and belief in the abilities of people who have special needs to learn grow and be :Experience using braille translation software (e.g. Duxbury Braille Blaster) Perkins braillers tactile graphic tools and braille organizational and time management using Google Suite for EducationAbility to work independently as well as part of an educational working in an educational setting or with students with and BenefitsThis is a full-time 182 day school-year position with a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position follows the Gateway Regional School District calendar.
