Quinte Health is seeking a knowledgeable Attendance and Accommodation Specialist to join our Human Resources team. In this critical role you will support a healthy and productive workforce by managing employee attendance return-to-work coordination and providing a leadership role in both temporary and permanent workplace accommodations. This position plays a key role in fostering a culture of attendance accountability well-being and equity in the workplace. Working in a unionized healthcare environment you will ensure compliance with collective agreements employment legislation and hospital policies while balancing organizational needs and employee rights.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources Disability Management Occupational Health or a related discipline.
35 years of progressive experience in HR or disability management ideally within a unionized setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of employment and human rights legislation occupational health and return-to-work protocols.
Direct experience leading both temporary and permanent accommodation processes.
Strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
Familiarity with collective agreements and experience working collaboratively with unions.
High level of discretion and ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues with empathy and professionalism.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and HR systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or CHRP/CHRL or equivalent designation.
Experience managing WSIB/WCB claims and liaising with third-party providers.
Attendance Promotion Program:
Administer and oversee Quinte Healths Attendance Promotion Program ensuring processes are consistently applied and aligned with organizational values labour and employment laws and collective agreements.
Monitor employee attendance patterns using data analytics to identify trends high-risk cases and areas for intervention.
Participate in attendance support meetings as required with employees and managers providing coaching support and documentation guidance.
Develop and deliver training and resources to Quinte Healths leadership team on attendance expectations and program procedures.
Collaborate with union representatives and department managers to resolve attendance concerns through supportive non-punitive strategies that encourage sustainable workforce engagement.
Accommodation Program (Temporary & Permanent):
Lead and coordinate the end-to-end accommodation process in consultation with Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety for both temporary and permanent workplace needs under the duty to accommodate.
Assess how functional limitations as provided by Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) can be safely accommodated based on position descriptions and analysis.
Develop and implement individualized accommodation plans in consultation with employees unions managers and OH&S.
Ensure collaborative decision-making and clear communication with all stakeholders.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of accommodations adjusting plans as needed to support both employee success and operational requirements.
Ensure adherence to applicable legislation (e.g. Human Rights Code AODA Occupational Health and Safety Act) and collective agreement provisions.
Provide subject-matter expertise and policy guidance on complex accommodation issues including permanent role modifications and disability-related leaves.
General Responsibilities:
Track monitor and report to key stakeholders on agreed upon metrics.
Support and advise leaders in the consistent application of attendance and accommodation practices.
Maintain accurate confidential documentation.
Participate in grievance handling arbitrations or dispute resolution processes related to attendance or accommodation matters.
Contribute to policy and program development to enhance inclusive workplace practices.
Represent the Human Resources department in matters related to wellness disability management and workforce planning.
