Community Day Charter Public School (CDCPS) seeks a passionate Director of Special Education to work with our school teams renowned for closing the achievement gap. CDCPS consists of multiple campuses across Lawrence MA and serves 1200 pre-kindergarten to 8th-grade students. The Director of Special Education will direct and supervise the special education administrative team for CDCPS and ensure compliance with all federal and state special education laws. As appropriate and in accordance with the requirements of M.G. L>c71B and 3A the Administrator may designate other CDCPS personnel to carry out some of the duties of the position is considered full-time exempt with a year round school-based schedule reporting to the Director of Academics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Program Leadership and Oversight- Oversee the entire CDCPS Special Education program with support from the Assistant Director of Special Education Special Education Coach and the Special Education Operations Fellow.
- Provide educational leadership for program assessment development and implementation of research-based methodologies.
- Ensure Special Education programs and procedures comply with state and federal regulations.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures governing evaluation staffing patterns and organizational structures.
- Monitor systems and procedures for special education data collection and record-keeping ensuring compliance with IEP and 504 regulations.
Collaboration and Communication- Act as a liaison between Special Education students families and the school especially in guiding families to appropriate out-of-school services and community agencies.
- Collaborate with Heads of School to support diversified instruction and strategies for low-achieving students.
- Work cooperatively with building administrators and staff to plan implement and manage services for students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with school leaders on district-wide strategic priorities and initiatives.
- Work with the Assistant Director to engage the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (PAC).
- Respond to questions and concerns from families and community members in a timely and professional manner.
Compliance and Reporting- Oversee the development and compliance of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with Special and General Education staff.
- Coordinate and prepare mandated federal state and local reports including Tiered Focused Monitoring and Mid-Cycle Reviews.
- Assist in preparing additional reports requested by the Director of Academics.
- Assist in preparing mandated state and federal reports within the area of responsibility.
- Ensure accurate compliance in the application and implementation of state and federal grant funds.
Staffing and Professional Development- Assist in the recruitment interviewing and recommendation of Special Education personnel.
- Coordinate professional development planning and implementation for Special Education staff and programs.
- Coordinate the use of contracted student support service providers including scheduling and budget monitoring.
Additional Responsibilities- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academics.
Qualifications:- Demonstrate a strong commitment to CDCPS mission values educational model through leadership decision-making and interactions with students staff and families
- Masters degree in special education educational leadership or a related field preferred
- Licensure as a Special Education Administrator by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Experience in special education administration or leadership
- Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders including students families staff and community members
- Strong organizational and management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
