Transportation Director
Purpose: The Transportation Director coordinates and supervises district transportation services to ensure safe reliable and timely transportation for students and staff. The Transportation Director is also responsible for the maintenance of all district vehicles.

Pay Rate: Based upon Education and Experience
Terms of Employment: 12 months
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid CDL License with required endorsements.
- Meet all State requirements for Bus Drivers including Defensive Driving and First Aid Certification.
Experience:
- Experience in school transportation.
- Experience supervising staff and coordinating work schedules and organizing work to be done.
- Complete required physical exam for Bus Drivers and 20 hours behind the wheel training.
General Expectations:

Specific Responsibilities:
- Develop a strategic plan for maintenance replacement and growth of the transportation department to adequately meet the needs of the school district.
- Coordinate and supervise district transportation services to ensure that students enjoy the full advantage of school district programs and activities.
- Appropriately operate all vehicles and equipment as required.
- Supervise and coordinate safe and orderly transportation to and from school and school-related activities.
- Prepare a preventive maintenance schedule and prioritize the maintenance work to be completed on district vehicles and buses.
- Maintain accurate filing systems including time cards of transportation employees driver physicals defensive driving courses first aid class attendance cost of maintenance and fuel preventive maintenance records and rosters of students transported.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district state and federal guidelines.
- Ensure that transportation facilities are properly maintained.
- Ensure that all district vehicles are in optimum condition and meet all safety requirements.
- Ensure that buses are inspected prior to each route or activity trip and that inspection forms are properly completed and filed.
- Develop a system to efficiently deal with emergency repair problems.
- Project needs for student transportation services and assist in the preparation of the operational budget.
- Establish district transportation routes and schedules and assign regular and substitute drivers.
- Hire assign train and evaluate transportation employees.
- Maintain records inspections training and documentation pertaining to all district vehicles bus drivers and Kansas school transportation requirements for USD 250.
- Report all accidents and file required reports with the Superintendent and Director of Business Operations.
- Immediately notify the Superintendent if any buses are running behind schedule.
- Check roads during inclement weather and recommend cancellation of routes due to weather or road conditions.
- Approve all time sheets for transportation employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Level 3 Medium Work
- Exerting 20 - 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
- Extended periods of sitting and/or standing.
- Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced multi-faceted work environment.
- Must possess valid drivers license.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Frequent stooping bending reaching kneeling crawling and turning.
- Requires climbing and balancing.
- Requires lifting moving and carrying items up to 50 lbs.
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Must work in and around dust fumes and odors.
- Communication after hours may be required to address emergency repair issues.
