Director of Strategic Initiatives

Job Summary
The Director of Strategic Initiatives role is an integral project and relationship manager to drive KIPP DCs strategic vision and priorities across the organization. They are responsible for facilitating cross-functional initiatives providing strategic support to the CEO and President and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities in close partnership with the Managing Director of Strategy and Culture. The starting salary range for this role is $125223-$138403. This is a full-time role based at KIPP DCs headquarters.

About the Role

The Director of Strategic Initiatives will manage organizational collaboration annual planning change management initiatives and special projects while providing leadership and coordination for critical cross-functional priorities. You will support KIPP DCs mission to create joyful identity-affirming learning environments and achieve extraordinary outcomes for students and alumni.

As a director this position must also ensure adherence to established internal control policies and procedures and maintain compliance within the organization. This is an exempt position and will report to the Managing Director of Strategy and Culture.


Location and Type of Work
As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support and this position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams frequently partner with other headquarters teams or regularly work in multiple locations. Because of the nature of the work this role allows for occasional flexibility and will be required to be onsite 4 days per week.

Responsibilities

Organizational Strategy & Planning Support (40% of time)

  • Collect and analyze contextual data surveys and feedback to provide insights and recommendations on strategic priorities under the guidance of the Managing Director
  • Generate progress reports on strategic initiatives for executive leadership the board of directors and external stakeholders
  • Support the execution of org-wide strategic initiatives ensuring timely completion of deliverables
  • Assist in translating strategic initiatives into actionable annual plans including resource allocation and staffing considerations
  • Track and report on performance metrics to support successful strategic plan implementation

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication (30% of time)

  • Drive internal communication and collaboration across functional teams to break down silos and improve efficiency in alignment with strategic goals
  • Facilitate discussions and communicate information on strategic priorities at executive team and leadership meetings
  • Conduct data analysis including annual staff surveys and performance metrics to support executive team decision-making
  • Build and manage knowledge management systems to improve staff family and partner access to critical information
  • Foster equitable engagement by enhancing feedback loops organizational listening and informed decision-making related to strategic initiatives

Board of DirectorsStrategic Support (20% of time)

  • Provide strategic support to help establish agendas content and materials for quarterly board meetings committee meetings and retreats
  • Prepare communications to inform and engage board members on organizational priorities.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of new board members
  • Support management team members who serve as committee liaisons with strategic support related to strategic priorities as needed

Organizational Effectiveness & Change Management Support (10% of time)

  • Support the planning and implementation of organizational change initiatives related to strategic priorities under the guidance of the Managing Director
  • In partnership with the Director of Communications assist in developing and executing communication strategies to support change management efforts related to strategic priorities
  • Provide support to staff to facilitate successful transitions related to strategic priorities
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of change initiatives related to strategic priorities providing feedback to the Managing Director

Requirements & Preferences

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional work experience including at least 2 years managing complex cross-functional projects that engage executive-level stakeholders
  • Experience managing and coordinating cross-functional projects
  • Experience in data collection organization management quality control and process documentation for large-scale projects or programs.
  • Strong data analysis and reasoning skills to surface actionable insights and trends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in schools or a school system
  • Familiarity with knowledge management systems and data analysis tools
  • Experience designing and maintaining data visualization tools and trackers

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional early mornings or late evenings for meetings or events with remote flexibility
  • Ability to attend events and meetings at KIPP DCs campuses and headquarters as needed

Benefits & Compensation

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $125223-$138403. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity equity and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical dental and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability long term disability life insurance and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days up to 10 paid sick days and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
