Job Description
The role
As part of our Chief Engineering group the Space Domain Senior Software Engineer will be in the mission systems team delivering Space Domain products that provide frontline situational awareness and decision support capability built on historic real-time and predictive data and intelligence. You will be responsible for the design implementation and delivery of software activities and support the growth and professional development of junior software engineers. You will work closely with and support the Software Architect in the technical definition of the products and will partner with the systems engineering and DevOps teams in the delivery of roadmap outcomes.
Further the successful candidate will:
- Lead and perform software engineering activities including the design implementation testing and review of allocated software components.
- Mentor coach and provide technical guidance to other software engineers.
- Participate in the generation of delivery scope and estimates for future software activities following Agile development practices.
- Support the Team Lead in the planning and prioritisation of work packages.
- Maintain the required documentation suite for product support and operations and software development.
- Provide advice and support the Software Architect in the technical definition of the software product roadmap.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office 9-day fortnight and part time (0.8 FTE minimum) will be considered for this role.
About you
Your education skills and experience will include:
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in software engineering computer science or related technical discipline
- Experienced in the development of large software projects.
- Demonstrated understanding of the full software engineering lifecycle of large software development projects.
- Experienced in the application of Agile methods in a software team.
- Experienced in the verification and acceptance testing of a software intensive system.
- Experienced in producing and reviewing technical documentation.
- Experienced in the interpretation and application of software standards.
- Well-versed in Object Orientated programming languages and the implementation of common design patterns.
Desirable:
- Experience with at least one of the following languages: Java Javascript C#
- Experience with one of the following UI Frameworks: React Vue Angular
- Experience with the design and implementation of relational databases
- Experience with the design and implementation or distributed real-time software systems
- Experience with development and deployment of Cloud Infrastructure (Azure or AWS)
As a defence security clearance is required for this role applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance preferably to NV1 level or have the ability to gain one.
