Job Description

Position: Director Community Fundraising

Department: Development

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Status: 100% Full-time Regular Exempt

Probation: 180 days

CENTERS MISSION: Building a world where LGBT people thrive as healthy equal and complete members of society.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Centers Development department is responsible for the fundraising to support the Centers many programs and services that are not financially supported by government grants. The department raises nearly $20 million through individual gifts private foundation grants and estate and legacy gifts as well as several fundraising events which include major events.

JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Community Fundraising will lead the planning and execution of a new peer-to-peer cycling fundraiser for the Los Angeles LGBT Center with a goal of raising a minimum of $2.6M in gross revenues building on the legacy of the iconic AIDS/LifeCycle event. This role will bring a first-time event to life while honoring its historic roots. This position will oversee a staff of two and a gross fundraising goal of $2600000.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Fundraising Strategy

  • Design and implement a year-round strategy to recruit retain and engage peer-to-peer fundraising participants with specific targets for growth and retention
  • Develop and deploy data-informed fundraising tools training and support systems to help participants exceed their goals
  • Create tailored engagement strategies for legacy riders new audiences corporate teams and affinity groups to drive inclusive community participation
  • Build data-driven donor journeys and segmentation strategies to integrate peer-to-peer participants into broader fundraising pipelines
  • Collaborate with Major Gifts and Membership teams to convert ride participants donors and volunteers into long-term supporters of the Centers mission

Donor Engagement & Stewardship

  • Lead community-building efforts to deepen engagement and loyalty among participants and supporters
  • Represent the ride and the Center at external events including Pride festivals and community gatherings to drive recruitment and engagement
  • Serve as the public face of the event at media opportunities speaking engagements and partner activations
  • Oversee storytelling initiatives that connect the ride to the Centers mission especially during moments of cultural significance
  • Support participants through consistent stewardship that fosters commitment and long-term involvement

Marketing & Visibility Integration

  • Partner with Marketing & Communications to shape the rides brand identity including naming visual design and values-based messaging
  • Collaborate to develop and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns aligned with moves management and participant engagement goals
  • Guide storytelling and recruitment efforts to promote the event build brand visibility and engage diverse communities
  • Ensure that all public-facing messaging reflects the Centers values of equity joy and movement-building

Department Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the Development Leadership Team contributing to strategy and organizational planning
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive project plan with financial tracking forecasting and performance metrics
  • Create and monitor annual goals to ensure fundraising targets are met or exceeded
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Corporate Partnerships Marketing and other internal teams to support shared fundraising and engagement objectives

Management Responsibilities (Budgetary & Direct Supervisory)

  • Supervise and lead a team of two full-time staff focused on recruitment and fundraising and one seasonal coordinator
  • Foster a collaborative inclusive and results-oriented team culture
  • Provide mentorship professional development and performance management to support individual and team success
  • Ensure staff have the tools training and support needed to meet their goals
  • Establish clear roles delegate responsibilities effectively and document key procedures to maintain alignment and efficiency

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 4 years progressive development experience managing multi-million-dollar revenue streams specifically within peer-to-peer endurance event fundraising
  • Minimum 2 years experience with marketing and communications with specific experience engaging and stewarding donors
  • Minimum 3 years experience successfully managing complex projects outside vendors and budgets
  • Proven public speaking and media relations experience with a compelling ability to serve as an organizational spokesperson
  • Experience working effectively with the LGBTQ community and a deep familiarity with issues of critical relevance to LGBTQ individuals
  • A passion for the Centers work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills marked by meticulous attention to detail and the ability to build strong relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive adapt and contribute significantly within a collaborative fast-paced team environment
  • Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedules and demands
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite expert-level proficiency in Salesforce for comprehensive donor management and campaign tracking and demonstrated command of Social Media Platforms for audience engagement
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
