Job Description

Job Goals:

The primary goal of the Early Childhood Specialist (ECS) is to support the developmentimplementation management and evaluation of GSRP classrooms. An Early Childhood Specialistprovides services to Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) staff in local school districts andcommunity programs for at-risk 4 year-olds program assessment and collaborative consultationwith staff agency personnel and administrators.

Qualifications:

Education:

Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education Child Development or related field required.

Work Experience:

Five or more years of previous preschool teaching experience. Preference given to candidates with experience working in GSRP and in inclusive preschool settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill essential responsibilities of the Early Childhood Specialist as identified in the MiLeap GSRP guidelines
  • Support GSRP teachers regarding curriculum licensing and program implementation
  • Observe students and make recommendations regarding strategies
  • Conduct program evaluation using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and assist teachers in developing and monitoring program quality improvement goals
  • Consult with teachers regarding appropriate child assessment tools development of child goals and strategies for meeting the individual needs of all students
  • Plan professional development for GSRP teachers
  • Assist teachers with completing all GSRP documentation required by MiLeap and VBISD
  • Support GSRP programs to meet MiLeap required expectations and guidelines
  • Foster positive relationships with local school districts and community agencies
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently when assigned a variety of responsibilities and tasks
  • Effective planning and organizing skills to meet stringent deadlines
  • Demonstrates experience in leadership teaching planning evaluation and curriculum development
  • All other duties as assigned

Skills:

  • Knowledge and expertise of child development adult learning styles cultural diversity and quality improvement
  • Knowledge and experience working with groups of young children and adults
  • Experience working with adults in a coaching role
  • Knowledge regarding services available for assisting children and families to minimize at-risk status and barriers to education
  • Training certifications and/or experience in administering assessments such as CLASS Teaching Pyramid Observation Tool (TPOT)
  • Training in and experience with research-based preschool curricula and knowledge of Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-K Pre-K Early Literacy & Math Essentials and Early Childhood PBIS including Pyramid Model
  • Ability to work effectively make decisions and problem solve collaboratively within a team and in partnership with local district and agency staff
  • Ability to present effective workshops and meetings
  • Take initiative and work independently when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing and ability to communicate and share information
  • Proficient with computer software programs including Microsoft Office Google Excel PowerPoint social media and internet software applications
  • General professional skills including a willingness to:
    • Make child-centered decisions
    • Assume positive intentions when working with others
    • Adhere to federal state and VBISD policies and procedures
    • Model VBISD guidelines: Respect Integrity Compassion and Excellence
    • Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon timelines
    • Seek ongoing professional learning and accept feedback in a professional way
    • Perform additional tasks responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood

Job Functions:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel and participate in State meetings.
  • Valid drivers license required.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
