The Special Education Preschool Teacher is responsible for delivering individualized instruction to preschool-aged children (ages 35) with diverse learning emotional or physical disabilities. The role involves developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment and collaborating with families and multidisciplinary teams to promote each childs development.
IEP Development & Implementation: Design and execute IEPs tailored to each students unique needs aligning with Indiana state standards and federal regulations.
Instructional Strategies: Employ specialized teaching techniques to enhance sensory motor language cognitive and social skills development.
Behavior Management: Utilize positive reinforcement and behavior modification strategies to encourage appropriate social behaviors.
Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and document student performance adjusting instructional methods as necessary.
Collaboration: Work closely with parents caregivers therapists and other educators to ensure a cohesive approach to each childs education.
Classroom Environment: Create a safe inclusive and engaging learning space that accommodates various disabilities and learning styles.
Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training to stay current with best practices in special education.
Education: Bachelors degree in Special Education Early Childhood Education or a related field; a Masters degree is preferred.
Licensure: Valid Indiana teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education for mild or intense disabilities .
Experience: Previous experience working with preschool-aged children with special needs is highly desirable.
Skills: Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills; proficiency in developing and implementing IEPs; familiarity with assistive technologies and adaptive equipment.
Teachers typically work in public or private preschool settings including developmental preschools Head Start programs and inclusive classrooms. The role requires physical activity including assisting students with mobility and may involve lifting up to 30 pounds
