Job Description

  • 1.0 FTE Nalaatsi Alternate Program Teacher
  • Posting Requirement: Open to candidates of Indigenous ancestry

About Nalaatsi School:

Nalaatsi is a school for students with Indigenous ancestry in grades 10 to 12 that is located on the unceded traditional territory of the Kmoks First Nation. Nalaatsi offers individualized support for students whose needs have not been met in a mainstream classroom setting providing a sense of community and belonging a safe and compassionate learning environment as well as access to exciting cultural activities within the community and beyond.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and grounded teacher of Indigenous ancestry to join our team. This educator will co-create a space of belonging and academic success for Indigenous youth with a strong emphasis on cultural safety land-based learning and Indigenous perspectives across subject areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach and support Indigenous students in grades 10-12 through culturally relevant and responsive instruction.
  • Design and adapt curriculum that reflects Indigenous worldviews perspectives and histories.
  • Integrate land-based experiential and holistic learning approaches.
  • Foster trusting relationships with students and families through relational and community-oriented practices.
  • Collaborate closely with school and district Indigenous Education staff.
  • Incorporate formative assessment practices that honor student voice and growth.
  • Co-develop learning outcomes in core subject areas: Language Arts Math Social Studies and Science with an Indigenous lens.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Indigenous Ancestry Required.
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous education frameworks and culturally safe teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated recent experience teaching grades 10-12 particularly with Indigenous youth.
  • Experience adapting curriculum to meet diverse learning needs in a trauma-informed and student-centered environment.
  • Skilled in building relationships with Indigenous families and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team committed to Indigenous student success and well-being.

As lifelong learners themselves our educators embrace diversity apply assessment for learning approaches and integrate technology in meaningful ways to personalize candidates will demonstrate a willingness to embrace and share the districts commitments outlined above and model its principles in their practice.
