About the Role
The Temporary Human Resources Generalist will support the Human Resources team at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) during a period of increased activity. This role provides broad HR support across employee relations recruiting onboarding compensation compliance and operational improvements. The Generalist will also contribute to strategic initiatives including compensation strategy implementation HR team calendar development creation of a departmental procedures manual and process streamlining. This role supports a three-member HR team - Benefits Specialist HR & Administrative Support Specialist and Contract Recruiter - and works under the direction of the Vice President of Human Resources.

This temporary position is expected to last between three and six months and is budgeted for up to 28 hours per week. This role is not eligible to participate in IALRs benefits offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employee Relations: Respond to employee concerns with professionalism and discretion assist in resolving workplace issues and document outcomes in collaboration with HR leadership.
  • Recruiting & Onboarding: Coordinate interviews communicate with candidates prepare documentation and support onboarding processes in partnership with the Contract Recruiter and HR & Administrative Support Specialist.
  • Compensation Support: Assist in implementing the organizations compensation strategy including preparing documentation updating compensation records and supporting equity and market analysis reviews.
  • HR Calendar Development: Lead the creation and maintenance of an annual HR team calendar to track key deadlines and recurring tasks across compliance training benefits and engagement.
  • Procedures Manual Development: Draft and organize an internal HR procedures manual to standardize processes and support continuity within the team.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate current HR processes and recommend opportunities for streamlining workflows improving consistency and enhancing the employee experience.
  • Help Desk Support: Monitor and respond to employee inquiries submitted through the HR Help Desk system triaging or escalating as appropriate.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain employee files and records ensure compliance with policies and legal requirements and assist with internal audits or reporting needs.
  • Special Projects: Support other HR initiatives or organizational projects as assigned including policy updates communications or training coordination.
  • Software Implementation: Assist with the implementation of new systems and software.

Work Location
We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville VA with the ability to work remotely as business needs allow.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive HR experience in a growing organization with exposure to employee relations compensation and generalist responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of HR principles employment law and compensation fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated experience handling sensitive employee matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Excellent communication collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with HRIS systems (such as Paycom) is a plus.
  • Experience with documentation process development and calendar/project management tools preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting a collaborative HR team structure is ideal.

Salary & Benefits
The contract pay rate depends on experience. This role is not eligible to participate in IALRs benefits offerings.
