Job Description

KIPP Texas is seeking a Managing Director FP&A to support the Deputy Chief Finance in managing all Financial Planning & Analysis day-to-day operations including Budgets Procurement and Risk Management. The Managing Director FP&A ensures that budgets are appropriately set and managed to maintain KIPP Texas financial sustainability procurement processes balance internal needs with compliance and cost efficiencies overall financial risk is managed utilizing a risk-based approach and that internal stakeholders feel supported by the FP&A team.

Managing Director FP&A  will primarily focus on org-wide expenses residing within School Support Partners (SSP) and central budgets to identify and implement cost efficiencies as agreed upon with the Deputy Chief Finance. This position will also undertake special projects related to financial planning and modeling budgeting systems integration and working to make more efficient financial procurement and risk management processes.

The Managing Director FP&A will will partner extensively and maintain productive relationships with the finance leadership and KIPP Texas executive teams budget owners and counterparts across all divisions within the organization. The Finance team celebrates understanding the big picture and this role will balance deep financial analysis with evaluating organizational KPIs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enforcement refinement and communication to applicable stakeholders of organizational budget policy process and procedures including but not limited to:
    • Annual operating & capital budgeting process including org-wide methodology planning presentation and implementation
    • Finances support and role with regards to KIPP Texas school staffing model
    • Ongoing budget management including related policies and procedures as well as position control
  • Work directly with the Deputy Chief Finance to ensure the financial success of all divisions including how to best monitor and report individual and consolidated division financials  
  • Ensure budget owners are provided with ongoing data analysis variance updates and projections ensuring appropriate monitoring and controls while supporting prudent budget decisions
  • Develop and maintain complex short-term and long-term financial models incorporating scenario analysis
  • Prepare internal monthly financial package
  • Enforcement refinement and communication to applicable stakeholders of organizational procurement policy process and procedures including but not limited to:
    • Contracts and associated requirements e.g. bonds COIs etc.
    • Corporate accounts (procurements associated responsibilities)
    • Purchase Orders and associated requirements
    • Purchasing including spending thresholds & associated process e.g. multi-quote utilization of cooperative agreement etc.
    • Request for Proposals
  • As needed review contracts with regards to legal and business terms adherence to procurement policy and opportunities for cost efficiencies; while important to be able to zoom into the details must have the ability to zoom out to see the overall risk and impact on the organization
  • Selection and management of cooperative agreements
  • Employ a risk-based approach to risk management for the organization
    • Health Benefits plan design and employee/employer contribution financial modeling
    • Administration of organizational liability insurance related to automobiles commercial crime cyber employment practices fiduciary flood property school leaders/directors/officers student accident and workers compensation
  • Budget and procurement system improvements and ongoing maintenance
  • Improve cross-divisional collaboration within all areas of focus
  • Management of FTEs; ability to recruit develop and retain staff members
  • Utilizing the expertise of others on the finance team undertake analysis and formulate recommendations for potential strategic cost initiatives/financial efficiencies
  • Build trust and nurture ongoing relationships with SSP Chiefs and staff; this is critical to understanding the needs of the organization and ensuring willingness to engage and provide information as requested
  • Ensure a high level of customer service and appropriate processes to meet the needs and requirements of the organization; this will require material consultation with functional experts
  • Actively seek out professional development opportunities
  • Travel to the various campuses and properties as needed
  • Ad hoc procurement reporting requested by Deputy Chief of Finance as needed

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of twelve years of work experience in a fast-paced high stress environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Expert problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently & identify process improvements with minimal ongoing assistance
  • Must have experience leading a team and working cross-functionally with different departments while maintaining strong working relationships when delivering unwanted news
  • Must have experience building complex financial models
  • Excellent self-initiative and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and financial analysis projects in a short and compressed time window
  • Experience improving and documenting process and procedures
  • Understanding of K-12/CMO funding in Texas
  • Understanding of the relationships between contract management procurement processes and policies purchase order and invoice processing and order management
  • Understanding of federal and state procurement laws and best practices in procurement as well as experience in all aspects of governmental procurement preferably at the K-12 level
  • Knowledge of contract terms & structures
  • Understanding of bank credit agreements and public debt offerings
  • Diverse experience valued e.g. finance accounting consulting non-profit for-profit
  • Positive and professional demeanor with a high level of self-confidence
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with various working styles and different personality types at all levels of management
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and strong PowerPoint skills
