BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency fighting hunger. WFP
reaches more than 80 million people each year - delivering food assistance in emergencies and
working with smallholder farmers communities and governments to improve nutrition and build resilience.
Over the past years WFP has responded to an unprecedented level of emergencies while maintaining ongoing operations. This increased demand stretches the organisation which means WFP must find new approaches and new ways of working to ensure we are channeling every available resource to the people we serve. In the context of a changing world and a changing WFP the Analysis Planning and Performance (APP) Division was set up in 2024 and houses cross-cutting evidence research and systems to maximise efficiency and impact. The Division is working directly with WFPs leadership to drive strategic corporate priorities.
WFPs Knowledge Management Unit is building on a previous critical corporate initiative on Innovations in Knowledge Management to learn more from AI-related interventions and how to effectively scale and implement them for broader impact. The consultant is responsible for overall project management of the Units AI-related projects.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Consultant reporting to the Head of the Knowledge Management Unit is expected to:
1) Provide project management support to AI projects including the development and
management of a detailed project schedule and work plan.
2) Ensure that milestones are achieved on time including the set-up of governance structure the project parameters including selection of key performance indicators and impact measurement plan.
3) Coordinate with the WFP AI Lead and other relevant stakeholders with diplomacy and tact represent the Knowledge Management Unit in regular meetings help facilitate inputs from all stakeholders and document progress.
4) Ensure that reporting on AI projects is well prepared and timely.
5) Monitor project budget.
6) Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders including at the Director level about strategy adjustments and progress.
7) Document project progress ensuring that learnings are captured and shared to relevant stakeholders. Monitor progress and escalate concerns or the need to adjust timelines in a timely fashion.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
Ensure that all work and materials developed during the contract are well documented
and available to the WFP Knowledge Management Unit.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
The candidate must have a degree in business communications or
international development.
Experience:
At least 3 years of project management experience. Experience with the
United Nations or an International Organization is also required.
Knowledge & Skills:
1) Proficiency in Windows MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook);
2) Good analytical abilities both quantitative and qualitative;
3) Ability to produce high-quality written materials including graphically-based
PowerPoint presentations as well as text documents.
4) Ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders with maturity and tact.
5) Collaborative spirit to liaise with a wide range of people at various levels
and across different cultures;
6) Time management skills with an ability to plan ahead anticipate
requirements problems and obstacles;
7) Self-motivated and able to work in a team;
Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English required. Intermediate knowledge of
another official UN language is beneficial.
