Job Description

With Privalia vente-exclusive Designer & Friends Eboutic and vente-privee Veepee achieved a 3.7 billion Euro turnover as of 2018. Present in 14 countries now Veepee is taking a leading role in the European digital commerce landscape.
About the role
At Privalia we are looking for a Vice President of Engineering who combines strategic leadership with deep technical insight. This is a non-hands-on but highly technical leadership position responsible for steering engineering efforts making sound architectural decisions and planning scalable sustainable technical roadmaps. A critical part of this role is navigating and modernizing a complex legacy PHP environment while delivering on our product and business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical leadership
- Own the engineering strategy and execution across multiple teams and products.
- Lead architecture discussions and ensure decisions align with business goals and technical feasibility.
- Make informed decisions balancing legacy constraints with modernization needs.
- Legacy modernization
- Evaluate guide and oversee initiatives to evolve and refactor our large-scale legacy PHP codebase.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize technical debt system reliability and modernization.
- Develop a phased roadmap for system upgrades refactors and re-platforming efforts.
- Team management & culture
- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering organization with a culture of ownership accountability and continuous improvement.
- Mentor engineering leaders and ensure effective team structures and growth paths.
- Foster strong collaboration with Product QA and DevOps teams.
- Planning & Execution
- Design and execute a plan out of the legacy technical stackTranslate business goals into an actionable technology roadmap with realistic timelines.
- Monitor engineering progress proactively resolve bottlenecks and ensure quality and delivery.
- Maintain clarity and transparency across the org on engineering initiatives and decisions.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate technical risks and trade-offs to non-technical as a key advisor to executive leadership on technology trends innovation and investment.
Requirements:
- 10 years of engineering experience with at least 2 years in leadership roles (Director level or above).
- Experience modernizing or migrating legacy systems (valuable PHP to modern frameworks or microservices).
- Deep understanding of software architecture system design scalability and technical debt management.
- Track record of leading large teams and delivering complex multi-team projects successfully.
- Strong knowledge of modern software development practices (CI/CD Agile DevOps observability etc.).
- Excellent communication and decision-making skills
