Job Description

Our client the Kelowna Women s Shelter (KWS) is a trusted and essential organization dedicated to supporting women and children providing safe and essential support to those affected by domestic abuse. Serving Kelowna and the surrounding area from Peachland to Oyama the shelter offers a compassionate space for healing hope and new beginnings and is deeply committed to creating a safe supportive environment where healing and empowerment are possible.

This is an exciting opportunity to join KWS as an HR Advisor within a non-profit environment. Reporting to the HR Manager you will play a key role in leading day-to-day people operations and driving key HR initiatives including recruitment and onboarding employee engagement benefits and leave administration and performance management. You will work closely with the HR Manager to support both tactical and strategic HR priorities ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering an inclusive high-trust workplace culture that reflects KWS s mission vision and values. This hands-on role offers the chance to design and lead impactful HR programs while directly contributing to the organization s continued growth and meaningful community impact.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluate and streamline HR workflows identifying process improvements and efficiencies and in collaboration with the HR team and other departments;
  • Partner with the Manager to develop scalable HR systems supporting organizational effectiveness;
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment and onboarding processes including job postings candidate screening interview scheduling and paperwork management;
  • Lead the onboarding process including preparing orientation materials company policies welcome packages and coordinating training sessions;
  • Support hiring managers and new employees throughout the process collecting feedback for improvement;
  • Plan and coordinate employee events team building activities and inclusion initiatives to foster an inclusive and engaging workplace culture;
  • Lead employee engagement surveys analyze feedback and track/report inclusion metrics to drive improvements;
  • Administer employee benefits wellness programs and leave of absence and return to work processes in compliance with providers and WorkSafe BC;
  • Serve as the main point of contact for HR benefits and policy inquiries collaborating with Payroll and Finance for process alignment;
  • Maintain accurate employee records process HR documentation and update HRIS and shared drives;
  • Support implementation and communication of HR policies and employee handbook updates ensuring compliance with BC Employment Standards labor legislation and collective agreement obligations;
  • Collaborate on the coordination and execution of the performance management processes including goal setting aligned with the organization s mission vision and values;
  • Assist in coordinating training sessions materials and communication for leaders to support their teams;
  • Contribute to strategic HR initiatives aligned with organizational goals and culture-building efforts;
  • Provide ongoing support to the Manager on HR projects and initiatives as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree in Human Resources or equivalent CPHR designation is considered an asset;
  • Exposure to and/or previous experience in the non-profit and unionized environment;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Adobe DocuSign G-Suite and HRIS (Payworks);
  • Proven ability to design implement and improve HR programs and systems;
  • Strong knowledge of HR functions including recruitment compensation benefits performance and organizational development;
  • Strong knowledge of BC Employment Standards labor legislation and collective agreement obligations;
  • Excellent organizational communication and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail;
  • Technologically savvy and quick to learn new systems and tools;
  • Strong time management planning and coordination abilities;
  • Demonstrated resilience discretion confidentiality professionalism and a service-oriented mindset;
  • Reliable self-driven adaptable and resilient; excels in both independent and team-based work;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver s License required.

The anticipated salary range is $63900 to $78100 per year based on education and experience and includes a competitive benefits package.
