Job Summary:

The Senior Manager of Academic Initiatives is responsible for coordinating and managing the day-to-day implementation of strategic initiatives approved by the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Senior Manager of Academic Initiatives plays an important role in interfacing between the Office of the Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs (OPAA) and the various departments of World Learning and the School for International Training. The Senior Manager of Academic Initiatives communicates with faculty and the various stakeholders ensures smooth coordination of workflow and tracks implementation of academic initiatives. The Senior Manager of Academic Initiatives provides strategic direction for academic priorities based on institutional academic calendars. SIT aspires to deliver the highest academic quality programming for its graduate and undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities of the Senior Manager of Academic Initiatives include:

Strategic Planning & Project Management

  • Assist the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in developing goals and strategies for critical projects and reoccurring events as needed.
  • Manage academic projects and provide strategic leadership analytical and research support for maintaining ongoing initiatives.
  • Assist the Office of the Provost & VP of Academic Affairs in the development and tracking of new undergraduate and graduate programs. Oversee deadlines to ensure timely completion of academic initiatives.

Academic Program & Curriculum Support

  • Play a pivotal role in coordinating program review curriculum management faculty workshops and other special academic projects.
  • Coordinate workflow and calendar of new program and curriculum review and development to ensure timely submissions to Academic & Program Affairs committee.
  • Under the supervision of the Assistant Provosts manage academic program material revision processes and documentation workflow in collaboration with program chairs and/or academic directors including:
    • Syllabi; managing regular revision and suggesting areas of improvement on content and academic quality.
    • Collaborate on training new ADs and PDs on SIT policies and procedures.
    • Faculty day-to-day support.
  • Administer the workflow of the Academic & Program Affairs committee and act as the ex-officio representative of the Office of the Provost on the committee.

Faculty Development

  • Assist in the development and engagement in training and other professional development activities for faculty throughout the year.
  • Liaise with the Office of Global Operations to coordinate faculty support during the organization of workshops symposia or faculty visits to schools in the US.

Scholarly Publications

  • Work with the editors of the Journal for Critical Global Issues to support and monitor the peer- review process.
  • act as the point of contact for authors and reviewers and guide the process of the journals progress towards indexation.

Communication & Administration

  • Prepare reports presentations charts graphs and other documents as requested and collaborate with other offices in the creation of the same as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain electronic filing systems to assure prompt retrieval of correspondence reports and other documents.
  • Liaise with the Office of Global Operations Admissions University Relations and Marketing & Communication to ensure fluid communication flow about the development of academic initiatives.
  • Supervise the Academic Programs Assistant and evaluate their annual performance.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required qualifications:

  • A terminal degree is preferred but a Masters in a relevant field will be considered.
  • At least three years of professional experience in the administration and management of academic initiatives and project management.
  • Excellent writing editing and interpersonal communication skills as the position requires proofreading syllabi and communicating with internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability attention to detail as well as organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively sensitively and professionally with faculty in-country staff and other SIT and World Learning staff as well as external stakeholders.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook). Database management skills considered a plus.
  • Willingness and ability for occasional flexibility in work schedule

Preferred qualifications:

  • Written and oral proficiency in Spanish or another second language.
  • Some knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g. Agile/Scrum);
  • Database management skills.
