The Department of Enrichment and Extended Learning is responsible for the planning and oversight of afterschool vacation and summer learning opportunities that meet the unique needs and pathways for students attending Holyoke Public Schools. We believe that if we:
- Identify the knowledge and skills needed for students to step up successfully and develop a project based standards aligned curriculum across all grade levels
- Embed research best practices throughout every aspect of program design
- Engage CBOs and other enrichment providers in planning and implementing bold innovative project based and standards informed enrichment
- Engage and support the best teachers through high quality curriculum resources professional learning and ongoing observation and feedback
- Involve and build relationships with students and families throughout the process
Holyoke Public Schools offers programming that reinforces skills learned during the year strengthens skills identified as areas of concern and provides a supportive environment for student academic and socio-emotional growth.
Student support staff will provide social emotional assistance during summer learning to ensure the summer learning site remains a welcoming and therapeutic physical space. Student support staff will work alongside guidance counselors and teachers in co-designing and communicating clear policies and protocols they will develop individual plans with students foster positive relationships with parents/guardians and continuously evaluate program effectiveness to make improvements for student social and emotional needs. Their role extends to forming caring relationships with students and families modeling respectful communication teaching self-regulation and self-care strategies and utilizing behavior management techniques with sensitivity.
The student support staff will also provide occasional restorative classroom interventions participate in training and support for school staff and supervise interns and volunteers as needed ensuring a holistic approach to student support and well-being.
Job Description:
- Oversee day-to-day Student Support
- Maintain a welcoming and therapeutic physical space
- Implement social-emotional supports for students
- Collaborate with Site Supervisors guidance counselors teachers on students needs and supports
- Co-design communicate and implement clear behavior protocols
- Communicate with and maintain positive relationships with parents/guardians
- Develop individual plans with students to address the issues that led to the teachers request for support
- Continuously evaluate program effectiveness and make improvements.
- Form caring relationships and model respectful communication and unconditional positive regard for students and families.
- Teach self-regulation skills and self-care strategies to identified students.
- Utilize behavior management techniques respectfully and appropriately.
- Employ relationship and counseling skills effectively.
- Provide occasional restorative classroom interventions when necessary.
- Participate in and help to facilitate when appropriate training and support for school staff
- Supervise interns and volunteers as needed
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
- 1-3 years experience working with at-risk youth doing social-emotional development work required
- Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Strong de-escalation and care planning skills
- Experience working in an urban setting preferred
- Experience working with diverse student populations preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills

Pay: 30.00hrly 100.00 weekly stipend
