Job Description

MYP Language & Literature and Individuals & Societies Teacher (1.0 FTE)

Grades 6 - 10

Temporary Position (2025-2026 school year)


Southpointe Academy is a leading edge International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School surrounded by the ocean beaches and natural beauty of South Delta. Southpointe is seeking an enthusiastic dedicated and collaborative MYP Language & Literature and Individuals & Societies Teacher who shares a commitment to inquiry- and concept-based teaching and learning. Reporting to the Middle School Principal the MYP Language & Literature and Individuals & Societies Teacher position will commence August 21 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.


Key Duties and Responsibilities


*These may include but are not limited to

  • Understand the developmental stages and unique needs of middle school students and design instruction that supports their cognitive social and emotional growth;
  • Enjoy teaching middle school students and bring enthusiasm patience and a sense of humour to the classroom to build strong positive connections;
  • Develop an inquiry-based and dynamic literature and social studies education program;
  • Foster an appreciation for scientific inquiry and a curiosity-driven approach to understanding the natural world;
  • Lead or support extracurricular activities such as sports clubs or competitions throughout the year;
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the development of an inquiry-based interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning;
  • Foster caring committed and supportive relationships with students and families;
    Create an environment that promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect curiosity and academic integrity;
  • Use engaging technology including simulations and data collection tools to enhance literature and social studies instruction and student learning;
  • Participate in professional development training related to the IB programmes;
  • Design prepare and deliver learning experiences that facilitate authentic scientific engagement and problem-solving;
  • Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet diverse student needs and learning styles;
  • Design and implement a range of authentic assessments that provide timely feedback to students and clear direction to parents;
  • Maintain accurate ongoing and complete records of student progress for the purposes of teaching learning and reporting;
  • Prepare reports conduct parent-teacher conferences and communicate with parents on an ongoing basis to foster open and supportive relationships;
  • Model a strong work ethic high standards of commitment and maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues students and parents;
  • Participate in community-building events both in and out of school hours.

Teachers at Southpointe Academy are expected to actively support the schools co-curricular program by leading a club or coaching a team for at least two terms each year. Opportunities include coaching in athletics such as basketball volleyball soccer track and field or badminton or running student clubs aligned with academic interests leadership service or the arts. This involvement supports student engagement beyond the classroom and contributes to the schools vibrant learning community.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education or Equivalent;
  • BC Ministry of Education: Certificate of Qualification or Independent School Teaching Certificate.
  • Undergraduate or graduate level degree in English literature Social Studies or related field.

Preferences

  • IB MYP training or teaching experience;
  • At least 1-2 years teaching experience;
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.

Contract

  • Temporary contract for the 2025-2026 school year (maternity leave cover).

Salary

  • Southpointes teacher salary grid will be 6% above the Delta public school grid for the 2025-2026 school year;
  • The annual salary range for a full-time teaching position at Southpointe Academy during the 2025-2026 school year is from $68422 to $116091 based on placement on the approved teacher salary grid;
  • Placement on the approved teacher salary grid is based on level of qualifications and duration of full-time teaching experience.
