The Role
As the Lead Associate Federal Domestic Policy youll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. In this role you will be responsible for advancing Save the Childrens government relations work related to U.S. domestic policy on several issues including early childhood education appropriations general education policies as well as other policies as assigned. You will report to the Managing Director Domestic Policy and work with internal stakeholders external partners lawmakers and their staff to educate and advocate on key policies that improve the wellbeing and outcomes for children in the United States.

What Youll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Federal Advocacy (50%)
- Support the development and execution of a policy and advocacy strategy to advance Save the Childrens U.S. domestic policy priorities.
- Educate and build bipartisan bicameral relationships with members of Congress and the Administration on key issues policies and solutions impacting children and families including appropriations education particularly early childhood education and other emerging focus areas.
- Advocate for legislation and policies that improve outcomes for children and families across priority issue areas.
- Advocate to Congress through the appropriations process to secure robust funding for relevant domestic programs such as the Child Care and Development Block Grant Head Start and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
- Engage with the Executive Branch and relevant federal agencies to shape advance and implement federal policies aligned with Save the Childrens goals including through regulations rulemaking and Executive Orders.
Partnerships and Coalitions (25%)
- In coordination with the Managing Director Domestic Policy represent Save the Children in coalitions related to relevant policy issues and build and establish partnerships with other organizations.
- Identify and develop new partnerships and/or coalitions focused on children.
Policy Research Materials and other projects (25%)
- Develop materials for advocacy and/or external engagement including fact sheets policy statements talking points for senior level staff and signon letters.
- Provide analysis on key legislation in relevant policy areas.
- Review existing policy research and determine potential Save the Children research opportunities.
- Assist in development of Save the Children research materials focused on the needs of children.
- Collaborate with members of the domestic policy team and other departments.
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
Required qualifications for the role
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent plus at least 3 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels both internally and externally
- This position is based in Washington DC and will require attendance of inperson meetings on Capitol Hill with agencies and coalition partners.
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred qualificationsfor the role
- Experience in a Congressional office NGO thinktank or in the Executive Branch in a position involving congressional relations policy research and/or appropriations.
- Professional experience working on education or early childhood education policies.
- Experience working effectively in coalitions and networks.
Compensation
Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position dependent on candidate location:
- Geo 1 NY Metro DC and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $66300 $74100 base salary
- Geo 2 Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $60350 $67450 base salary
- Geo 3 Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $54400 $60800 base salary
The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on but not limited to relevant experience base salary of internal peers business sector and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
