Job Description
Position Information
This is a Department Promotional Examinationand is open only to current eligible employees of theKern County Public Works Departmentwho have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report.
Examinations:- Oral exam date will be announced five (5) days prior to the examination.
Examinations:
Oral Exam (Weight 100%):Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicants training education experience interest and personal fitness for the position.
The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant an oral exam.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during scheduled date(s)/time(s)/location without exception.
Minimum Qualifications / Employment StandardsA Registered Professional in the State of California in one of the following specialties: Land Surveyor Traffic Engineer Civil Engineer or Architect and five (5) years of experience in the field of the registered specialty which includes two (2) years of management experience equivalent to the Kern County Engineering Manager classification.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WHICH MAY BE CONTINGENT ON ASSIGNMENT:- Valid Registration in the State of California as a Licensed Land Surveyor
- Valid Registration in the State of California as a Professional Civil Engineer
- Valid Registration in the State of California as a Professional Traffic Engineer
- Valid Registration in the State of California as a Licensed Architect
- Possession of a valid California Drivers License

Additional Information
Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.
A background check may be conducted for this classification.
Following an offer of employment you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which an immediate appointment will be made at the Public Works Department.
Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelvemonths unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
