Job Description

Arizona State University invites applications for the inaugural Assistant/Associate Dean for Student Affairs for the newly established School of Medicine and Advanced Medical Engineering. This fulltime position carries the faculty rank of Clinical Professor. This position offers an opportunity to shape the student experience and oversee the development of studentcentered policies and services that support student wellbeing success and progression. Reporting to the Founding Dean the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education the Assistant/Associate Dean will be a pivotal figure in building the Office of Student Affairs fostering a culture of holistic student support and promoting the retention and success of medical students. The anticipated start date is May 1 2025.

About the School of Medicine and Advanced Medical Engineering:

Our mission is to cultivate physicians who can integrate their medical expertise with leadingedge engineering and augmented intelligence (AI) skills in a humancentered framework and develop innovative solutions to healthcare challenges. Our faculty will advance clinical practice and knowledge through education and translational research to deliver a groundbreaking medical education experience that fosters uncompromised excellence in patient care biomedical discovery engineering solutions and an entrepreneurial mindset. Graduates of the school will be equipped to identify envision and implement creative answers to the evolving obstacles in health care for their individual patients communities and beyond.

Essential Functions of the Position

The successful candidate will be expected to oversee and guide all aspects of the student experience including:

  • Lead the creation and implementation of comprehensive wellness programs that address the mental emotional and physical wellbeing of medical students.
  • Collaborate with academic leaders to develop studentcentered policies related to academic progression
  • Oversee all academic advising services
  • Lead the development and staffing of the Office of Student Affairs
  • Develop and implement programs that support student retention and success
  • Oversee the financial aid process
  • Partner with academic and clinical leadership to align student services with the overall goals of the curriculum
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to participate in extracurricular activities community service and student governance and student organizations


Required Qualifications:

  • Medical Doctoral degree
  • Extensive experience in student affairs academic advising or student support services preferably in medical or healthrelated education.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in developing studentcentered policies including student progression and academic success initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee academic and career advising services in higher education.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in medical student support services including wellness and mental health initiatives.
  • At least five years of experience at an LCMEaccredited medical school.
  • Masters or PhD in Medical Education.
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes and standards related to medical education.
  • Proven ability to build and lead student affairs offices or similar administrative units.
  • Strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by medical students and strategies to promote retention and success.
  • Board Certification in a medical specialty.
  • Commitment to inclusion in student affairs and advancing the ASU Charter.
