The University of Florida (UF) Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) seeks a dynamic responsible and highly qualified individual to oversee management of its facilities which comprise more than 800000 gross square feet of space including more than 360000 square feet of research space that support a vibrant community of more than 300 tenured and tenuretrack faculty and 76 instructional faculty and as of Fallundergraduate and 2810 graduate students. studying topics ranging from natural hazards to cancer treatment to autonomous vehicles. The Director will be responsible for the daily operations of the Facilities Services staff coordinate plan and manage all HWCOE facilities service maintenance and safety activities and formulate program goals and objectives. This position is an excellent opportunity for an engineer architect or construction manager who enjoys working on novel projects with important societal benefit. Minimal travel is required. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation.
The Director of Facilities Operations oversees the planning design construction and maintenance of the Colleges physical infrastructure and plays a vital role in promoting a safe compliant and wellfunctioning physical environment. This includes working closely with the Office of Laboratory Safety (OLS) to support safety inspections ensure adherence to environmental health and safety regulations and implement best practices for laboratory operations. The Director is responsible for developing a service model centered on customer satisfaction technologyenhanced operations and a forwardlooking approach to facilities management. They also collaborate with Management Information Services (MIS) the Universitys Physical Plant and the Planning Design and Construction Divisions to maintain a safe efficient and productive environment that supports the Colleges research teaching and innovation missions.
The Director must effectively lead project teams including subcontractors and vendors to deliver projects on time within budget and in full compliance with building codes environmental health and safety (EH&S) regulations and University of Florida policies. Strong leadership skills are essential including excellent verbal and written communication sound judgment a proactive approach to solving complex problems and a strong work ethic. The Director serves as a key interface with stakeholders to clarify the scope and schedule of pending work requests exercising discretion in prioritizing tasks and seeking management input on particularly complex or sensitive issues. The ability to navigate competing priorities and operate effectively in a dynamic academic research environment is critical.
Technical expertise should include deep knowledge of the planning design construction operation and maintenance of buildings preferably in environments that support research or other technical activities involving physical chemical biological or radiological processes. Experience with integrating specialized equipment or machinery into facilities is highly desirable. Candidates should be proficient in modern project management tools such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) ComputerAided Design (CAD) Critical Path Method (CPM) software or other technologies that enhance project workflow and execution.
Oversees the daytoday operations of the college Facilities Office and its staff to ensure a smooth operation throughout including general services e.g. mail distribution and management of projects by Project Managers. Supervision of fulltime (TEAMS) positions reviews and approval leave and time reporting conducts performance appraisals etc.

Experience in facilities operations and maintenance of campus or institution infrastructure.
Masters degree in engineering architecture building construction or facilities management.
Licensed as a Professional Engineer Architect or General Contractor.
Certification as a facilities manager or a project manager.
Expertise with industry standard data management tools (e.g. Excel Access) to include data mining querying pivot table generation and report writing. Analysis and presentation of the resulting data is necessary.
Evidence of navigating a complex organization preferably in a large university setting with an ability to work with administrators faculty and students.
Ability to organize and delegate work so as to control a variety of programs simultaneously and the adaptability to cope with changing facilities standards and requirements.
Demonstrated record of building a strong customer service culture with metrics and objectives in a facilities function.
Demonstrated leadership skills within a changing environment. Proven track record of managing teams processes and projects.
Demonstrated track record of hiring managing and mentoring staff members. This involves holding people accountable resolving conflicts active participation in annual performance evaluations and providing professional development opportunities.
