Athletic Coordinator

TheCraig County School Board Virginia is now accepting applications for an Athletic Coordinator for theSchool Year.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

The Athletic Coordinator will oversee the development coordination and management of the athletic programs within Craig County Public Schools. This role will promote a safe and inclusive environment for studentathletes ensuring adherence to all district policies and state regulations. The Athletic Coordinator will also serve as a liaison between school administration coaches students and parents while fostering a culture of sportsmanship and teamwork.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

The minimum performance expectations include but are not limited to the following functions/tasks:

  • Plans schedules and oversees intramural and interscholastic day evening and weekend athletic events that meet the needs and interests of students while promoting physical fitness and healthy competition.
  • Coordinates schedules with other activities within the school and with other schools programs; prepares annual master athletic and activities calendar and attends athletic events.
  • Oversee athletic budget manage resources including equipment uniforms and facilities. Organize fundraising activities and events to support athletic programs; build relationships with community partners alumni and supporters to enhance the athletics program.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with students parents and staff; address any concerns timely
  • Encourage and promote a culture of respect integrity and sportsmanship among all participants; will consult with the principal to follow disciplinary issues following school policies.
  • Coordinates with Human Resources to appoint athletic coaches and other student activity sponsors while providing guidance and support to coaches to enhance their effectiveness and foster positive relationships with student athletes.
  • Conducts meetings to explain policies and programs and to discuss issues as they arise.
  • Coordinates manages and is responsible for student activities including preparation and maintenance of facilities & fields securing of necessary temporary personnel (i.e. ticket sellers gate coverage police emergency service crews and game officials) arrangement of transportation preparation for traffic and crowd control and arrangements with Facilities Manager for custodial coverage cleanup and repair after events;
  • Interprets students eligibility and prepares eligibility lists; arranges for team physical examinations where applicable;
  • Attends district regional and state athletic meetings;
  • Works collaboratively with the principal to schedule administrative coverage of all afterschool events;
  • Arranges special events such as award presentations rallies and programs by outside groups interested in promoting athletic or student activities including attending athletic booster club functions.
  • Schedules use of rooms and facilities for student and community activities (CCRCA) and provides for adequate supervision of activities and protection of property and equipment;
  • Develops and implements a written annual plan to promote positive public relations regarding athletic and other student activities;
  • Assumes responsibility for evaluating all athletic coaching staff members annually and observing practice sessions;
  • Assumes responsibility for adherence to all Virginia High School League district regional and state rules and regulations;
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities and ensures compliance with all Title IX regulations.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Thorough understanding of VHSL (Virginia High School League) regulations and other regulations governing athletic programs. Experience coaching is preferred but not required. Strong organizational leadership and communication skills are necessary. Experience supervising staff interacting with students parents and administrators.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Candidates must possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school. A bachelors or masters degree is preferred. Prior experience coaching working knowledge of Title IX and understanding and working knowledge of all state and local initiatives concerning athletics are also required. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and have knowledge of VHSL Regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Work requires climbing sitting stooping crouching reaching pushing pulling grasping and repetitive motions. Frequent walking and lifting up to approximately 50 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds.

EVALUATION

The Superintendent & Principal will evaluate performance on ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
