Job Description

Position Vacancy:

BlacksburgMiddle School Math Teacher

Job Title: AVID Coordinator / AVID Elective Teacher (Grades 68)
Location: Blacksburg Middle School Blacksburg South Carolina
Reports To: School Principal

Position Overview:

The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Coordinator/AVID Elective Teacher is responsible for implementing and managing the AVID program at the middle school level. This role supports student achievement by teaching the AVID elective class for grades 68 and coordinating schoolwide AVID strategies to promote college and career readiness. The AVID Coordinator collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure the success of AVID students and the integration of AVID methodologies across content areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Duties:

  • Teach AVID elective classes to 6th 7th and 8th grade students.

  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with AVID curriculum and strategies.

  • Facilitate the development of students skills in writing inquiry collaboration organization and reading (WICOR).

  • Support students with academic goalsetting time management and college/career exploration.

  • Coordinate and supervise AVID tutorials and tutoring sessions.

  • Plan and facilitate AVID field trips guest speakers and college visits.

Program Coordination:

  • Serve as the AVID site coordinator and primary liaison with the district AVID Director and AVID Center.

  • Lead the AVID Site Team and support professional development for staff in AVID strategies.

  • Maintain program compliance and data reporting as required by the AVID Center.

  • Coordinate recruitment and selection of AVID elective students.

  • Organize AVIDrelated events such as parent nights and student showcases.

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Promote a schoolwide college and careergoing culture.

  • Support core content teachers in implementing AVID instructional strategies.

  • Attend AVID trainings (e.g. Summer Institute Path Trainings) and facilitate staff participation.

  • Analyze student data to monitor progress and make informed instructional and programmatic decisions.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Valid South Carolina teaching certification (elementary or middle level in any subject area)

  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience.

  • Strong organizational communication and leadership skills.

  • Commitment to AVIDs mission and philosophy.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience with AVID as a teacher/coordinator..

  • Training through AVID Summer Institute or AVID DigitalXP.

  • Experience in program development and data analysis.

Salary:
Teacher Salary Scale

FLSA Status:
Exempt

Length of Contract:
9 Months 190 Days
