About the position:
The Machinery Engineer is a team member of the Mech Designs Engineering team within the Chevron ENGINE Designs Engineering group which supports Chevrons Manufacturing and Refineries Assets. This role forms part of a larger engineering network across Chevron with the primary purpose to support all phases of machinery engineering from concept development scoping selection manufacturing technical audit final acceptance startup troubleshooting and failure analysis of rotating equipment including pumps compressors steam and gas turbines motors generators fans gearboxes and associated systems across large complex process facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supports all phases of machinery engineering from concept development scoping selection manufacturing technical audit final acceptance startup troubleshooting and failure analysis
2. Prepare review and approve machinery or component purchase specifications which may include preparation of engineering operating maintenance or reliability standards policies and instructions
3. Provide technical review and approval of vendor calculations/drawings and technical reports
4. Participate in resolution of all operational and reliability issues as may occur during startup and during normal plant operation
5. Answer technical inquiries make technical recommendations improve design tools and develop design procedures
6. Spearhead resolution of quality issues during equipment manufacturing witness and approve factory acceptance test results on behalf of the company to ensure compliance with Chevron Engineering Standards (CES)
7. Ensures the work practices applications data and tools are effective and efficient to meet Chevron and industry requirements. These include condition monitoring machinery performance monitoring routine and turnaround machinery work scope development and Engineering Work Order development.
8. Lead machinery initiatives and studies to improve plant safety and reliability
9. Support inputs to economic analysis for proposed upgrades or improvements to rotating equipment assets
10. Participate in troubleshooting complex machinery problems develop alternatives and work with condition monitoring team members and others to propose and implement solutions for longterm reliability
11. Works collaboratively with crossfunctional teams (Operations Technical Routine Maintenance Turnaround Projects Construction Services Group etc.) to improve asset reliability
12. Ensures lessons learned are shared and incorporated into the applicable systems for sustainability
13. Promote adherence to CES for new or modified equipment and ensure the CES Governance Process is followed for any deviations. Evaluate gaps in CES and recommend changes; facilitate local review of new or revised standards prior to implementation; aid in the deployment and interpretation of CES
14. Interface with Global Manufacturing and Corporate Best Practice teams for sharing of lessonslearned and to investigate new technology or new applications of existing technology
Required Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 510 years relevant experience with rotating equipment in a complex oil and gas operating environment providing engineering field troubleshooting equipment selection and specification vibrations analysis failure mechanisms etc.
2. Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Complex Process (preferred).
3. Working knowledge of industryspecific engineering manuals and codes such as American Petroleum Institute (API) repair standards and practices.
4. Proven ability to analyse and understand complex situations quickly and develop practical appropriate solutions to resolve high impact people/business/process issues
5. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite (Excel Word PowerPoint OneDrive SharePoint)
6. Good written and verbal communication skills
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
