The Senior Success Coach for Student Success is responsible for providing exceptional academic and transitional support to firstyear students applicable to all aspects of the students life tasks: academic personal social and career. The Senior Success Coach for Student Success is responsible for a specific academic area and advising function. The Senior Success Coach for Student Success will provide leadership and supervision to Student Success Coaches who are assigned to them. They will provide leadership and supervision in the department in the absence of the Director of the Office of Student Success including representing the department for university events and meetings.
This is a fulltime position that requires occasional evening and weekend obligations. The ideal candidate will have leadership skills as well as knowledge of best practices in college transition/retention late adolescent development including social and emotional development as well as experience working with this age group. The ability to work in a collaborative fastpaced work environment is a necessity of the position. Excellent oral and communication skills are required. The ideal candidate will have a masters degree in an appropriate field including higher education developmental psychology counseling or education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Masters degree required in an appropriate related field (Education Counseling Student Personnel or others) with three (3) or more years of experience in advising and/or higher education.
Experience and Training:
- Three (3) or more years of experience serving as a Success Coach (or comparable position) preferably at High Point University including providing outstanding leadership to a significant initiative within the unit.
Knowledge Skills Ability:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and a student record system.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize situations and data to implement appropriate solutions and to create reports.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to work in a collaborative fastpaced work environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in a semester long orientation program designed to meet the unique academic and social/emotional needs of first year students;
- Assists with firstyear student activities that promote a sense of belongingness and connection to peers High Point University and the community;
- Assists with the development and dissemination of communication materials (brochures website and social media) to enhance the services provided for firstyear students including materials for various stakeholders (including faculty and parents);
- Supports the academic success and progress of firstyear students through class attendance monitoring academic performance monitoring transitional conferencing and graduation planning in coordination with the Office of Academic Services;
- Provides student support through developmental advising that comprehensively supports the whole student in all aspects of their life tasks academic personal social and career;
- Coordinates student academic support services with Academic Services: academic advising academic services/tutoring Learning Excellence and Office of Accessibility & Resources;
- Provides academic and transitional advising support to all entering firstyear students. Advise on course selection and academic planning majors and careers academic progress and general University policies and procedures. Provide academic advising through group orientation peer and individualized contact;
- Develops rapport provide training and serve as an advising liaison with assigned school/departments and their faculty as well as peer advising liaisons to best serve the advising needs of students in the respective majors.
- Assists with the development training and management of a First Year Navigator Program appropriate to assigned majors/departments;
- Advises firstyear students regarding academic requirements and courses for majors including incorporation of High Point University academic policies and procedures;
- Provides systematic support for firstyear students in undecided/undeclared majors;
- Provides systematic support for firstyear students identified as atrisk in coordination with the Office of Student Life;
- Assists with a first year navigator program that matches first year students to upperclass students who assist the firstyear students with the transition to college life and sense of belonging to the campus community in coordination with the Office of Student Life;
- Maintains confidential records collect data and prepare reports related to the functions of advising planning evaluation and assessment;
- Make referrals to other University services/offices as appropriate (examples: Academic Development Registrars Office Student/Residence Life Counseling & Psychological Services Career Services etc.);
- Assists the Office of Student Success and the University President in the implementation of the Presidents Seminar on Life Skills including classroom management reporting attendance and grading assignments for EXP 1101;
- Attends Professional Development Training aligned to the goals of the position;
- Other duties as identified by the Director of the Office of Student Success.
