Position Duties/Responsibilities
The Director of Accessibility Services provides leadership vision and oversight for the Office of Accessibility Services. The selected candidate ensures the university remains compliance with local state and federal regulations applicable to students with disabilities and others who require reasonable accommodations necessary for them to have a fair educational experience. Furthermore the professional is responsible for facilitating active and passive educational programming for the campus community to expand the knowledge and understanding of accessibility compliance. The Office of Accessibility Services is a unit of the Health and Wellness umbrella within the Division of Student Affairs. The department under the leadership of the director will coordinate and collaborate with other student affairs units to increase efficiency and reach. The directoris responsible for the following functions:
- Provide leadership vision and oversight for the Office of Accessibility Services
- Supervise all professional and student staff within the Office of Accessibility Services
- Plan implement and evaluate projects and services related to accessibility and reasonable accommodations throughout the university
- Remain abreast of local state and federal regulations related to the Americans with Disabilities Act and Office of Civil Rights compliance
- Monitor and perform evaluations to ensure the university remains compliant with ADA/ADAAA and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Provide student referrals to other support services on and offcampus when necessary
- Develop and leads initiatives and projects that advance awareness of the need for accessibility across the institution and community
- Develop annual objectives and benchmarks for the Office of Accessibility Services which supports the universitys mission and Division of Student Affairs Strategic Plan
- Oversee the process for registration with the Office of Accessibility Services through an electronic platform
- Conduct interviews and reviews medical documentation to develop appropriate accommodation plans
- Foster and assign reasonable academic and nonacademic accommodations for McNeese students in need
- Provide intervention support to faculty and staff who experience student encounters requiring accessibility knowledge and expertise
- Field complaints from students and find reasonable solutions which comply with federal regulations while maintaining integrity of classes and degree programs
- Plan and implement educational programs to foster awareness and student success related accessibility compliance for the McNeese community
- Seek for and develop partnerships with community agencies grantfunded initiatives and other thirdparty support to enhance the efforts of the Office of Accessibility Services
- Develop and utilize student information systems and related electronic platforms to track student communications interventions and outcomes
- Administer and proctor exams as needed
- Develop administer and monitor the department budget and allocate resources effectively
- Produce data reports connected to student success and departmental impact
- Partner with other departments to host outreach programs
- Maintain competency through external and selfdirected professional development such as reading attending conferences and workshops and networking with counterparts
- Represent the Office of Accessibility Services at internal and external campus outreach programs and events
- Serve on campus committees as assigned
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or higher authority
Required/Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution
- At least five years of related professional experience
- Knowledge and understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and their application to the university setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Previous experience coordinating programs and activities for small and large groups
- Ability to work evenings nights and weekends with prior notice
- Understanding of using computer software needed to complete job duties such as the Microsoft Office 365 Banner (or other) student information system and a campus portal platform
- Significant budget management experience
- Evidence of an energetic studentcentered approach to completion of work duties and program development
Preferred:
- Masters Degree or greater from an accredited institution
- Seven years or more of related experience
- Prior compliance experience associated with the Americans with Disabilities Act Title IX and other federal regulations
- Experience speaking to small and large groups
- Prior supervision experience of individuals 18 years of age or older
- Ability to solve problems and develop creative solutions when barriers are present
- Experience formulating assessment and generating data/action reports based on findings
