Job Title:Assistant Director of Athletic Communications for Creative services
Reporting Structure: Director of Sports Communication
Division:Intercollegiate Athletics
The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications for Creative Services is responsible for developing and executing the creative vision of the Bethune-Cookman University Athletic Department. This role oversees primarily video content including special projects and video board content as well as graphic design and multimedia storytelling to elevate the departments brand and support its mission. The Assistant Director plays a key role in shaping the visual identity ofBethune-CookmanAthletics ensuring that all creative content aligns with strategic goals and enhances the student-athlete experience. This includes producing high-impact visuals and engaging content that resonates with fans recruits and the broader university promote and engage with the universitys 15 varsity sports teams competing at the Division I level of athletics. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director of Athletic Communications The CatEye Network and other key stakeholders to enhance the visibility and reputation of Bethune-Cookman Athletics through engaging creative content for social media and .
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Brainstorm produce and implement creative content including but not limited to game recaps short-form social media videos in-venue videoboard content GIFs student-athlete feature stories recruiting content etc. Capture high quality photo and/or video content at games practices & events for all sports teams at B-CU. Follow social media trends in order to create relevant targeted content.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Communications staff to ensure consistency of quality across content for all B-CU sports. Work internally and with external vendors to ensure overall scope and brand of the athletic department is well represented.
  • Mentor & assist interns during office hours practices & games. Lead occasional workshops on video-specific topics to continue intern education. Conduct research on new & emerging best practices in the industry and bring these ideas to interns & full-time staff to continue to develop departmental knowledge.
  • Maintain organized file & folder structure for all video content on shared platforms (local servers and cloud-based server). Organize log & melt all game footage shortly after each game. Assist with rolling organization of archives from previous seasons to ensure search ability & efficient structure.
  • In addition to creative work the Assistant Director is responsible for recruiting mentoring and managing a dynamic team of full-time temporary and student staff fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Essential Functions
  • Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook Word Excel etc.) as well as desktop publishing and visual software including but not limited to the following: Adobe Creative Suite with PhotoShop Illustrator InDesign OBS as well as social media management tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse populations university community and the public.
  • Attention to detail to detect and correct errors in social media and creative content.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to travel with teams
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during athletic events and for real-time coverage.
  • Knowledge of SIDEARM Website Management software preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA statistics software (Genius StatCrew) preferred.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university preferably in Communications Marketing or a related field.
  • At least one year of full-time/or two years of internship experience in the sports information/creative field and experience in operations and digital marketing.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital and creative media production and social media strategy.
  • Strong communication skills and effective sense of teamwork and collaboration
  • Extensive knowledge of and familiarity with the creation of content inherent to the areas of supervision.
  • Ability to manage the departments digital assets and power the delivery of content across platforms.
  • Ability to strategize shoot and produce digital content for multiple social media and online media platforms to generate engagement and positively publicize Bethune-Cookman Athletics
  • Experience in other multi-media production platforms (web sites animation graphic design) desired.
  • Knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Suite required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic NCAA rules and regulations.
  • A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects & ability to build motion graphics.
  • Experience creating long-form video content.
  • A working understanding of social media strategy & management.
  • Strong working knowledge of cinema and mirrorless cameras & Adobe Premiere (or equivalent) editing software.
  • A working understanding of social media platforms & proven ability to create platform-specific content (Instagram X Facebook etc.).
  • Strong organization & communication skills.
  • Creative dedicated & motivated; able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated love of sports.
  • Experience working within a collegiate athletic department.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic Southwestern Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
