Job Description

Introduction

Job Summary:The Mental Health Probate Court Case Manager plays a critical role in the probate court systemoverseeing and managing cases involving individuals with mental health issues. This positionrequires an individual with deep compassion attention to detail and the ability to navigatecomplex legal and healthcare systems. The Case Manager serves as an advocate for clientsensuring they are provided with appropriate care treatment and legal protection throughout thecourt process. The role involves collaboration with judges attorneys healthcare providers socialservices agencies and other stakeholders to support clients mental health and legal needs. Thisposition reports to the Probate Judge or his/her designee (Chief Clerk).


Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multistep progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies**

Nature of Work

Case Management: Caseload Management:Oversee and manage a diverse caseload of individuals with mental health challengeswithin the probate court system. This includes conducting initial assessments ongoingevaluations and developing comprehensive case plans for each client. Ensure that allcase activities are documented thoroughly accurately and in a timely manner. Initial Assessments & Case Plans:Conduct detailed interviews and assessments with clients to identify their mental healthneeds personal history and overall wellbeing. Develop personalized case plans thataddress mental health treatment social services and legal needs. Regularly reassess casesto ensure the plans remain effective and aligned with clients evolving needs. Information Coordination:Work closely with healthcare providers medical professionals social workers and otherkey stakeholders to gather all necessary information and documentation for each involves ensuring that all reports medical records and other documentation arecomplete and uptodate for court Advocacy: Client Representation:Act as a strong advocate for clients ensuring their rights are respected throughout theprobate process. Provide clients with the necessary support and guidance addressingconcerns and ensuring they understand the proceedings and their legal rights. Communication Facilitation:Facilitate open and clear communication between clients their families and serviceproviders. Assist in resolving any misunderstandings or conflicts that may arise betweenthese parties. Help ensure that clients are kept informed about their case status andunderstand their legal and mental health treatment options. Empowerment and Support:Empower clients to actively participate in their own care and legal processes. Provideemotional and psychological support during challenging legal proceedings ensuringclients feel heard and Preparation and Attendance: Legal Document Preparation:Prepare file and organize necessary legal documents petitions and reports for theprobate court ensuring compliance with all local state and federal laws. This includespreparing reports that outline the status of cases and presenting wellsupportedrecommendations for care and treatment. Court Hearings & Testimony:Attend probate court hearings as required providing testimony and case updates to thejudge. Present relevant facts medical evaluations and other case information to supportthe courts decisionmaking process. Respond to questions or requests for additionalinformation from the court ensuring clarity and accuracy. Client Court Preparation:Ensure that clients are informed prepared and supported for court appearances. Provideguidance on what to expect in court and ensure clients are comfortable navigating theproceedings. Work to reduce any anxiety or fear related to the court process by offeringreassurance and and Coordination: Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration:Work collaboratively with mental health professionals social service agencies lawenforcement and legal professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each clients with all relevant parties to create a seamless network of support for clients. Liaison Role:Serve as a liaison between the court clients families and external agencies. Facilitateeffective communication and followup to ensure all stakeholders are aligned andinformed on case progress. Resource Connection:Connect clients with appropriate services and resources including mental health carehousing assistance legal services and community support. Assist clients in navigatingthese resources to ensure they receive the necessary services in a timely and Reporting: Regulatory Compliance:Ensure that all case activities comply with relevant laws regulations and ethicalstandards. Maintain a deep understanding of federal state and local mental health lawsand probate court procedures. Case Documentation & Confidentiality:Maintain accurate detailed and confidential records for all cases. This includes keepingthorough notes preparing case reports and ensuring all information is securely stored inaccordance with privacy laws and regulations. Progress Reporting:Prepare and submit regular reports to the court and relevant stakeholders on case statusoutcomes and any updates or changes. These reports should be clear concise and basedon comprehensive information helping the court make informed decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelors degree in Social Work Psychology Criminal Justice or a related field isrequired. A Masters degree in Social Work Psychology or a related field is Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in case management social work or a related fieldideally within a mental health or legal setting. Experience in working with individualswith mental health challenges in the court system is a significant Skills: Mental Health Knowledge:A strong understanding of mental health diagnoses treatments and available of mental health laws and the ability to navigate complex mental health andlegal systems. Court Procedures:Familiarity with probate court processes legal documentation and relevant laws relatedto mental health cases. Ability to prepare legal documents and understand the proceduralsteps in court hearings. Communication Skills:Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectivelywith clients families attorneys medical professionals and social service providers. Organizational Skills:Exceptional organizational and timemanagement skills with the ability to manage acaseload and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Attention to detail is critical in casedocumentation reporting and tracking case progress. Technology Proficiency:Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel PowerPoint etc.) and casemanagement software. Comfort with learning and utilizing new technologies tostreamline case management Requirements: A valid drivers license and reliable transportation for travel to client visits and Qualifications: Licensure:Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or similar certification is highly preferred. Legal Environment Experience:Experience working in a legal or court environment especially in probate or mentalhealth courts is a significant asset. Bilingual Abilities:Proficiency in a second language is a plus as it helps ensure accessibility for nonEnglishspeaking Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods and perform computerbased work. Ability to travel locally for client visits home visits and court appearances

Special Requirements

Musthold a valid Alabama Drivers License and maintain a driving record that isacceptable to the Authoritys insurance carrier. Must maintain liabilitycoverage on personal vehicles. Must be willing to work a flexible schedulewhich may include evenings and/or weekends.
