Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Roland Park Country School a K12 independent girls school seeks an Upper School Biology Teacher (60% or 80%) to begin August 2025. The individual in this position reports directly to the Upper School Head and will work in collaboration with members of the Science department. This individual should have a strong desire to educate young people and create the ideal learning environment for students to learn and grow.

The Roland Park Country School Science Department empowers our students to be observant investigators and discerning evaluators of their surrounding environments. They develop the skills and motivation to consider their relationships to natural systems human communities and future generations. Throughout their years in the Upper School students study biology physics and chemistry. In addition they have the opportunity to take electives on a variety of subjects including advanced placement (AP) classes.


The Science Department is a collaborative environment where teamwork permeates beyond core content and decisions are derived departmentally through discussion and consensus building. We partner closely with RPCSs STEM Institute and aim to foster in our students the habits of mind that will enable them to solve complex problems.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Teaches three sections of Biology
  • If needed serves as academic advisor and/or advisor to student extracurricular activities
  • Plans innovative developmentally appropriate classroom activities and assignments that engage a diverse student population.
  • Builds curriculum works collaboratively with colleagues and supports the developmental needs of adolescent girls.
  • Collaborates with Science Department and STEM colleagues
  • Integrates interactive digital tools into the curriculum as appropriate.
  • Respects and values the Schools Mission and Core Values
  • Attends Upper School faculty meetings Department meetings and Grade level team meetings as appropriate.
  • Creates a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Fulfills other reasonable duties as assigned by the Upper School Head or Head of School.

Core Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Biology
  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in content delivery/skill development
  • Experience with inquirybased learning pedagogies that put students at the center of their learning
  • Familiarity with giving and receiving feedback for professional growth
  • Growth mindset flexibility and openness to collaboration and experimentation
  • Passion for science education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Biology or a related science
  • Curriculum development of advanced electives in Biology or related sciences

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Remain in a stationary position often sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Repeat motion of wrists hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment such as a computer and phone.
  • Requires visual acuity to read a variety of written materials.
  • Physical agility: stand kneel walk run push/pull squat twist turn bend stoop reach overhead crouch and respond to emergencies.
  • Must be able to move around and access all parts of the campus upon request which includes gym turf fields dining hall etc.
  • Occasionally ascend and descend stairs in emergency situations.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • The Upper School Biology Teacher is a 60% part time or 80% full time reduced exempt 10 month position. Schedule TBD.
  • The individual in this position is expected to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School and during other hours for events and activities.
  • The Upper School Biology Teacher is expected to perform their job duties on campus unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School.

COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE: In accordance with Marylands Equal Pay for Equal Work Act we are committed to providing transparent wage information for all posted job opportunities. The salary range for this position is $32400 $86000 annually. Compensation is determined based on factors such as Experience Qualifications and Internal equity.
